Over three years ago, it all started as a small group of more than 10 people who loved group dancing. Early in the morning at Vo Van Kiet Park, they would practice each dance step to gentle music, rich in the cultural identity of their homeland.
At that time, Ms. Vu Thi Bong, residing in Phu Trinh ward – who was instrumental in establishing this dance group from its early days – shared: “ Ballroom dancing is an attractive recreational activity, but it is also an effective exercise that promotes health, flexibility, and a healthy, beautiful physique. Through group dancing, women can expand their social circle, learn from each other, become closer, and feel more refreshed.” Then, year after year, the number of participants in the group dance team gradually increased. Most of the women are over 50, but their dances are graceful, energetic, and skillful. Ms. Nguyen Lien, residing on Truong Han Sieu street, one of the group's most skilled dancers, said: “Besides the health benefits, dancing to music also helps many women relax, maintain a healthy physique, and enjoy life more…” To encourage more people to participate regularly, Ms. Lien and some other members of the group mobilized members to have uniforms made. Those women in difficult circumstances received financial assistance from other women. As a result, each woman received three dance dresses—blue, yellow, and pink—to add color to the park and contribute to building a healthy and modern cultural lifestyle in the community.
To facilitate the development and expansion of group dance activities in the park, on January 20, 2024, the Women's Union of Phu Thuy Ward (Phan Thiet) issued a decision to establish the "Vo Van Kiet Park Folk Dance and Sports Club for Fun." The club's objectives are to practice and exchange folk dance performances; to integrate the dissemination of the Party's policies, the State's laws, local regulations, and to implement the "Building the Modern Vietnamese Woman" emulation movement and the campaign to build a family with 5 "no's and 3 clean's," contributing to the cultivation of Vietnamese family values.
On the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8, 2024, the "Vo Van Kiet Park Sports Dance Club" won first prize in the "Healthy and Beautiful Folk Dance" competition organized by Phu Thuy ward. Recently, on April 6, 2024, the "Vo Van Kiet Park Sports Dance Club" participated in the 2nd Vietnam Community Nutrition Day held in Ho Chi Minh City and won second prize among 25 participating folk dance teams.
