Inauguration of the Commemorative Sign named after President Ho Chi Minh in Sainte Adresse city, France

Within the framework of the program to participate in the 19th Francophone Summit and the official visit to the French Republic, at noon on October 6, local time, General Secretary and President To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived in Sainte Adresse city to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Commemorative Sign named after President Ho Chi Minh, Hero of National Liberation; Outstanding Cultural Celebrity of Vietnam.

To mark President Ho Chi Minh's journey in France, the Sainte-Adresse city government decided to place a commemorative plaque in the Masquelier area of ​​Sainte-Adresse city, in front of the house where Uncle Ho used to live, which is now used as a place to organize community activities of the city.

The commemorative plaque bears the inscription in French and Vietnamese: "From 1911-1912, President Ho Chi Minh lived and worked in the city of Sainte Adresse in the grounds of the "Masquelier" on a long journey for the future of Vietnam."

Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam highly appreciated the decision of the City Government to consider the Commemorative Sign as an inseparable part of the city's heritage; and expressed his gratitude to the French people, loyal friends of Vietnam, for always making efforts to preserve historical sites that mark President Ho Chi Minh's journey to find a way to save the country.

The General Secretary and President affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh devoted his entire life to the people and the country, and was a shining symbol of the spirit and mettle of the Vietnamese people; he was not only an outstanding peacemaker for his nation but also a staunch fighter for the liberation of nations around the world. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) honored him as “Hero of national liberation; outstanding cultural figure of Vietnam” and the world. The city of Sainte Adresse has become and will become a memorial site for the Vietnamese people as well as for all nations yearning for peace and independence.

The years in France on the journey to find a way to save the country were an opportunity for President Ho Chi Minh as well as the entire Vietnamese people to become more closely connected with the French people by sharing the values ​​of peace, freedom and solidarity, and joining hands to fight against oppression and exploitation in the world.

Emphasizing that through the ups and downs of history, the relationship between Vietnam and France has been increasingly consolidated and developed, the General Secretary and President said that everyone is deeply grateful for the contributions of previous generations who have continuously nurtured the relationship between the two countries, especially President Ho Chi Minh, one of the founding members of the French Communist Party and the Association of Patriotic Annamese People, the predecessor of the current Association of Vietnamese People in France. The years in France on the journey to find a way to save the country were an opportunity for President Ho Chi Minh as well as the entire Vietnamese people to become closer to the French people when they shared the values ​​of peace, freedom and solidarity, and joined hands to fight against oppression and exploitation in the world. Vietnam will never forget the help and companionship of the French people in the struggle for national independence.

Affirming that Vietnam always considers France a leading European partner and is ready to further deepen the strategic partnership framework between the two countries, the General Secretary and President said that he personally also highly values ​​the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with France and has many good feelings for the French people.

With Regarding the coastal city of Sainte Adresse, General Secretary and President To Lam said that Vietnam has many world-famous coastal cities and cooperation between Vietnamese and French localities is a special feature of the relationship between the two countries; he hoped that with the existing connections, Sainte Adresse City will have more exchanges and cooperation with Vietnamese cities, contributing to strengthening multifaceted cooperation at all levels, enhancing people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Expressing his respect for President Ho Chi Minh, the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people, and appreciating President Ho Chi Minh's purpose and ideal of national liberation, Mayor of Sainte Adresse Hubert Dejean de la Batie said that the installation of the commemorative plaque is a mark of history not only for Vietnam but also for France. That contributes to expressing the affection, friendship and solidarity of the people of Sainte Adresse in particular and the French people in general towards President Ho Chi Minh and the people of Vietnam.

Previously, at Sainte Adresse City Hall, General Secretary and President To Lam wrote in the guestbook: “I and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation are delighted to visit Sainte Adresse. We are deeply moved by the good feelings that the city government and French friends have for President Ho Chi Minh, the great leader of Vietnam, national liberation hero, and world cultural celebrity. His imprints in Sainte Adresse are an important bridge connecting the friendship between our two countries and peoples.

I believe that, on the basis of the common history and the noble human values ​​that President Ho Chi Minh left behind, the traditional ties and close cooperation between Vietnam and France in general and with the city of Sainte Adresse in particular will be increasingly consolidated and developed.
