The historic flood in Bao Yen district (Lao Cai) caused many administrative units, schools, and houses to be submerged in water and mud. When the flood receded, desks and chairs in schools were scattered, everywhere from the schoolyard to the hallways and classrooms were covered with a layer of mud dozens of centimeters thick. Many desks, chairs, and learning equipment were severely damaged.

Pho Rang Secondary School No. 1, Bao Yen district is one of the schools that suffered heavy damage due to floods.

Teachers and staff of Lao Cai College, with the support of students, are urgently cleaning up mud, washing tables and chairs, repairing damage, and quickly preparing facilities to welcome students back to class. According to the reporter, due to the large amount of mud and lack of water, the recovery work is facing many difficulties.

Sharing with us, teacher Pham Hoang Ngoc Hue - Vice Principal of Pho Rang Secondary School No. 1, Bao Yen District, Lao Cai said: "Never before has the school suffered such heavy damage. Water flooded all the classrooms, the mud layer was up to 30cm thick. Like other units and households in the area, we are currently seriously lacking clean water and facing many difficulties in cleaning up this large amount of mud.

To ensure school facilities for students to return to school soon, we look forward to receiving support from local authorities and units located in the area."

At Pho Rang Secondary School No. 2, Bao Yen District, the flood flooded the entire first floor, causing all the desks, chairs, computers, and records to be damaged. The school, parents, and other support forces are urgently working on the repair. At present, the school is also very worried about not having enough desks and chairs to ensure teaching and learning activities.

Mobilize forces to help schools prepare facilities

According to statistics, up to now, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai has 7 schools completely flooded; over 30 schools have landslides, damaged property and facilities. Currently, many schools in the communes are still unable to communicate.

The Department of Education and Training is also urgently implementing disaster recovery work, with the motto of ensuring new safety for students returning to class. Schools not affected by the disaster will continue to open to welcome people to evacuate.

Sharing with us, Mr. Bui Minh Tuan, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Bao Yen District, Lao Cai said: Currently, the whole sector has more than 100 families of cadres and civil servants affected by flooding due to natural disasters. This is also a difficulty for the Department of Education and Training of Bao Yen District. The sector is also making efforts to mobilize all forces to support schools in cleaning and tidying up classrooms, ensuring the necessary conditions for teaching and learning to return to normal...

According to the plan, Bao Yen district will continue to let students stay home from school until September 15, when over 22,000 students at all levels will return to class.
