Mr. Lo Minh Tuong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Giai Commune, Que Phong District (Nghe An), said that after discovering a crack on the mountain, the authorities quickly evacuated households to a safe place.

According to Mr. Tuong, the crack is about 100m long, 20-40cm wide, and about 10m deep in some places, and was discovered at 11am today (September 29) on Pu Meo mountain, in Puc village (Nam Giai commune).

After the landslide occurred in this area, local authorities mobilized police and military forces to quickly arrive at the scene.

“The crack is at risk of directly affecting four households with nearly 20 people. Currently, the families and their properties have been evacuated to a safe place by the authorities,” said Mr. Tuong.

It is known that Puc village, Nam Giai commune has 90 households with 360 people, mainly Thai ethnic people.

Most households live about 30m - 50m from Pu Meo mountain. The appearance of long-lasting cracks has made local people extremely worried and confused.

“Currently, there is heavy rain in the area. Police and military forces are on duty here, not allowing people to pass through to ensure safety. The leaders of the District People's Committee have also come directly to inspect and have a plan to handle and overcome the situation,” Mr. Tuong added.
