On March 30, the Investigation Police Department of An Giang Province Police searched the house of Mr. Huynh Le Phong, former Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Long Xuyen City, due to violations in compensation and resettlement support when the state acquired land in the city.

Mr. Phong and a number of other officials are said to have not followed proper procedures in examining documents submitted to the Long Xuyen City People's Committee to issue decisions on land allocation and grant land use right certificates to households that are not in accordance with regulations.

Previously, on March 29, the Investigation Police Agency of An Giang Province issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecuting the accused Nguyen Thanh Phong (36 years old, officer of the Land Fund Development Center of Long Xuyen City) and Nguyen Thien Thanh (48 years old, officer of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Long Xuyen City).

Both were prosecuted for investigation of violating regulations on compensation and resettlement support when the state reclaims land.
