In addition to developing expertise and updating new treatment methods to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment, Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province also pays much attention to organizing community support programs in the area.
Continuing the program in 2023 and 2024, on April 17 and 18, 2025, Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital cooperated with the Association of Families of Children and People with Cerebral Palsy in Vietnam (CPFAV) to successfully organize the humanitarian program "Medical examination, treatment and consultation on dental care for children with cerebral palsy in 2025".
This year's program is even more meaningful when it is held on Vietnam's Day of People with Disabilities, April 18 , to honor the contributions of the disabled community and demonstrate the companionship and sharing of Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital and raise public awareness of the rights of disadvantaged groups.
Participating in the program, 35 children aged 2 to 15 in Dak Lak province received free dental scaling, fillings, tooth extraction, medicine and oral care products. The hospital supported all expenses so that families could feel secure in their children's treatment.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the program, Doctor Vo Minh Thanh, Director of Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, shared: “Caring for the teeth of a child is not simple, and for children with cerebral palsy, everything requires even more patience and love. Therefore, the annual dental examination program for children is not only a medical activity, but also an effort to connect the hospital, family and community to accompany children on the journey of caring for and protecting healthy smiles.”
Dr. Nguyen Thuy Phuong, Head of the Oral and Maxillofacial Department of Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, said: “Although there are some difficulties in the intervention process due to the specific nature of the disease, with expertise and patience, our team always strives to ensure that each child has access to the most complete medical services.”
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung, Head of the Association of Families of Children and People with Cerebral Palsy, Dak Lak Branch, sent her sincere thanks to Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital and the team of doctors, volunteers and sponsors who accompanied and together brought a meaningful, practical and complete program.
Children with cerebral palsy receive dental cleanings and treatment at the program.
The mother of 8-year-old Binh An emotionally shared after her child had his tartar cleaned and 2 decayed teeth extracted: “There were times when I took my child everywhere, but they refused because he had strong reactions and was difficult to cooperate… Really, not every place has enough patience to accept such special children. But today, the program not only treated my child with love and care, but also taught me how to take care of my teeth , thank you very much to the hospital.”
Although many families had to travel dozens of kilometers, through windy and sunny roads to bring their children for examination, optimistic smiles were always present on the lips of the children and their parents. It was this spirit that inspired the entire team of doctors, nurses and volunteers participating.
This activity not only has medical significance, but also motivates parents to strongly bring their children into the light, confidently integrate and connect with the community.
