Opening of the international border gate pair of Thuong Phuoc - Kaoh Roka by road and river

On January 17, Dong Thap province held an opening ceremony for the pair of international road and river border gates Thuong Phuoc (Dong Thap province, Vietnam) - Kaoh Roka (Prey Veng province, Cambodia) as approved by the Government in Resolution 235.

Previously, on December 12, 2024, the Government issued Resolution No. 235 on opening the international road and river border gate of Thuong Phuoc, Dong Thap province.

At the ceremony, Mr. Pham Thien Nghia - Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee - said that the pair of international border gates Thuong Phuoc - Kaoh Roka accounts for a large proportion of import and export due to its favorable geographical location for waterways and roads. However, the potential of this pair of border gates has not been fully exploited due to its function of only managing waterways.

The Government issued Resolution No. 235 on opening the Thuong Phuoc international road and river border gate, which will create a comprehensive, interconnected, multi-functional border gate, opening up many opportunities for both sides, facilitating the transportation of goods, connecting trade, developing services and tourism, thereby significantly contributing to improving the living standards of people in the two countries.

"When this pair of border gates is officially operational, trade exchange activities between Dong Thap province and Prey Veng province will increase by an average of 10% per year, opening up many opportunities for businesses of the two countries, especially small and medium enterprises, to strongly increase import and export activities between the two countries.

Opening this border gate will attract many investors, create more new jobs for local people, and improve the material and spiritual life of people on both sides of the border," said Mr. Nghia.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Vu - Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the National Border Committee - said that in the overall state relations have developed well under the direct and close guidance of the senior leaders of Vietnam and Cambodia, the relationship between the two countries in recent times has brought about extremely positive results in many fields, bringing great practical benefits to the people of the two countries.

In this overall relationship, the leaders, people and governments of both sides attach great importance to border management, friendship and increasingly attach importance to the development of border gate economy.

"The goal set by the two countries' senior leaders in the coming time is to increase two-way trade turnover to 20 billion USD. It is certain that the border gate economy between the two countries, including the Thuong Phuoc - Kaoh Roka border gate, will play an important role," said Mr. Vu.

Dong Thap has a 50.66km long border adjacent to Prey Veng province (Kingdom of Cambodia) with 7 border gates, including 2 international border gates. These are important gateways to promote trade and transport of goods across the Vietnam - Cambodia border and other countries in the region.

In the period of 2022 - 2024, the total import and export turnover of goods across the border between the two provinces of Dong Thap - Prey Veng will reach over 1.4 billion USD, the import and export value of the following year is always higher than the previous year.
