Techfest Hanoi 2023 with the theme "Hanoi connecting the Capital Region - innovation and development" is expected to connect technology, create and promote the startup ecosystem, and create regional connectivity.

The 2023 Capital Region Innovation and Startup Festival (Techfest Hanoi 2023) opened on the afternoon of October 12 at the National Convention Center. The program aims to create and promote the development of the regional innovation and startup ecosystem, with Hanoi as the center, taking advantage of opportunities, trends, and strengths in socio-economic development, supporting the development of the region's science and technology market.

In his opening speech, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Xuan Dinh said that building an innovation ecosystem must be associated with localities and regions, focusing on exploiting nuclear and local resources to create sustainability and long-term development of the national ecosystem.

He mentioned the Global Innovation Index Report 2023, saying that Vietnam continued to improve its ranking, up 2 places compared to 2022, ranking 46/132 countries and economies. This result is thanks to the development of national technological capacity and the growing innovative startup ecosystem.

However, Deputy Minister Dinh frankly said that the current ecological and environmental sustainability indicators are low, showing that institutional improvements are still needed to facilitate socio-economic development associated with the goal of green growth and sustainable development based on science, technology and innovation. He expected Hanoi to play a core role with other provinces and cities in developing key areas in an open direction to promote potential and intellectual resources.

He assessed that Techfest Hanoi contributed to creating motivation and spreading the entrepreneurial spirit. In addition to the series of activities to develop the ecosystem and connect local regions, he hoped that the program would receive many practical solutions to unlock the potential of the capital region.

Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Le Hong Son acknowledged that Hanoi is gradually promoting its role, creating development momentum, expanding forms of association, cooperation, and support for localities in the region and the whole country. Hanoi is leading the country in implementing policies and strategies on science, technology, and innovation. According to Startup Blink, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are ranked in the top 1,000 global startup cities.

He said that innovative activities with high knowledge content have created a strong driving force and formed a new wave of development for the economy and society of the city and the region. From 2016 to now, innovative startups have raised 1 billion USD with 100 successful capital calls. The city has many mechanisms and policies to support innovative startups, thereby promoting the development of the innovative startup ecosystem.

Currently, Hanoi has about 1,000 innovative startups out of a total of 3,800 innovative startups nationwide (accounting for 26.32%). Up to now, there have been 32 business incubators operating in multiple sectors and fields in the area (accounting for 38.1% of the total number of incubators nationwide).

The Vice Chairman of Hanoi proposed to accelerate the online connection of the city's innovative startup ecosystem with the national ecosystem, with each university and research institute being an innovation center contributing to connecting resources for the ecosystem.

He also proposed to build and operate the Hanoi Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to lead and connect entities in the startup ecosystem, provide startup support services, and connect resources. In addition to building a startup culture among young people, it is necessary to take advantage of the achievements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and support resources.

Techfest Hanoi 2023 is co-organized by the Hanoi People's Committee and the Ministry of Science and Technology, taking place from October 12-14. Within the framework of the program, there will also be a forum connecting technology and innovative startups to promote an open innovation ecosystem in the direction of ESG Hanoi, a Youth Forum for Innovative Startups, and two scientific seminars on the topic of businesses with science, technology and innovation; promoting logistics and connecting and developing the capital region.
