Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang said that the Government has identified 2024 as a breakthrough year, a pivotal year for the whole country and localities to strive to successfully implement the 5-year socio-economic development plan for the period 2021 - 2025. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has also focused on organizing and implementing drastically and specifically from the beginning of 2024 the action programs to implement major policies and guidelines of the Party and State, which have had a specific impact on changing the socio-economic situation and activities of the Industry and Trade sector.
The Southern region is the largest economic locomotive of the country, developing dynamically, with high and sustainable economic growth rate; leading in the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country; the focal point in integration, expanding trade, and effective economic cooperation with countries in the Southeast Asian region and the world. In particular, the Southeast region (with Ho Chi Minh City as the core) is a large, dynamic center of economy, science and technology; the Mekong Delta is a key area for food, aquatic products, and fruit production, contributing significantly to ensuring national food security, contributing greatly to the country's agricultural and aquatic product exports.

Since the 9th Southern Regional Industry and Trade Conference in 2023 held in Hau Giang province, development linkage activities between localities in the region have been increasingly focused on and promoted in the following areas: Sharing information on State management, industrial production and trade activities; connecting goods trade has been strengthened, coordination in handling violations by market management forces has been maintained regularly and effectively. Thereby, actively contributing to the achievements of the local Industry and Trade sector in recent times.
Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang also emphasized that the 10th Southern Industry and Trade Conference in 2024 was held with the aim of: Assessing the implementation of the Industry and Trade development tasks of the Southern provinces and cities in 2023 and the first 9 months of 2024, thereby proposing tasks and solutions for the last 3 months of 2024.

Discuss and exchange experiences to resolve difficulties and problems related to state management of local departments and branches, thereby proposing solutions to promote production and business, create links, support and cooperation in the development of the Industry and Trade sector in each province, city and the whole region.
Create opportunities for businesses in the region to meet, seek cooperation opportunities, promote investment and trade to strengthen investment linkage activities, develop production and business, and promote trade between localities in the region.
Create conditions for officials and civil servants of the Industry and Trade sector in the southern provinces and cities to exchange and learn experiences in state management of industry and trade; learn about the potential and strengths of each locality to orient regional linkages in the field of industrial, trade and service development.
“ To achieve the set goals, at today's Conference, I suggest that delegates proactively and actively contribute opinions, speak directly to key issues, clarify existing problems, obstacles, causes and propose important solutions, ” Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang suggested.

Representing Kien Giang province, speaking at the Conference, Mr. Giang Thanh Khoa - Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee informed that in the first 9 months of 2024, in the context of complicated developments in the world and the country, the economy was affected by many factors but the local economy still grew steadily. GRDP in the first 9 months increased by 6.76%, estimated to grow by about 7.0% in the whole year of 2024, with an economic scale of about 144 trillion VND.
In particular, for the Industry and Trade sector, in the first 9 months of 2024: Industrial production value is estimated at more than 40,800 billion VND, up 12.92% over the same period and reaching 74.94% of the plan; export turnover is estimated at 686 million USD, up 6.77% over the same period and reaching 74.57% of the plan; import turnover is estimated at 101.7 million USD, reaching 84.75% of the plan; total retail sales of goods and revenue of service sectors is estimated at 119,431 billion VND, up 23.8% over the same period and reaching 79.83% of the plan.
The 10th Conference of Industry and Trade of Southern provinces and cities in 2024 aims to enhance information exchange between the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, units under the Ministry and localities to remove difficulties and obstacles in the State management of the Industry and Trade sector, creating conditions for the Departments of Industry and Trade of provinces and cities to exchange information, experience and support cooperation for mutual development.

Mr. Giang Thanh Khoa also said that with the desire for the Industry and Trade sector to develop strongly and sustainably in the coming time, the leaders of Kien Giang province will always accompany, support, and create favorable conditions for the Department of Industry and Trade of Kien Giang province and the Department of Industry and Trade of the provinces and cities in the Southern region to successfully complete the assigned tasks in the spirit of coordination for mutual development.
At the same time, Kien Giang province also hopes to continue receiving attention and support from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, units under the Ministry and localities in the region and the whole country to help Kien Giang attract more investment projects, develop trade and boost imports; contributing to the successful implementation of socio-economic development goals in 2024 and in the coming time.
