Vietnamese tourists do not hesitate to spend money on foreign travel despite economic difficulties.
Báo Lao Động•24/05/2024
The average spending of Vietnamese tourists for overseas travel in the summer of 2024 is expected to be around 1,000 - 1,500 USD depending on the destination, according to The Outbox Company.
Vietnam's outbound tourism market continues to demonstrate its position and positive growth potential despite ongoing economic difficulties. A survey of Vietnamese tourists planning to travel abroad in the next 12 months showed that 79.7% of them expressed their intention to take a trip this summer. However, only 22.2% of tourists surveyed have booked services (all or part) for the trip. The majority of the remaining tourists are only planning or considering choosing a suitable destination. The study also pointed out that one of the most notable highlights of Vietnam's outbound tourism market in the summer of 2024 will be the middle-aged tourist segment. The survey results show that Gen X (those born between 1965 and 1980) is the leading market segment for this summer, with 58.8% of respondents planning to take at least one international trip this summer. This figure is double that of Gen Z (the generation born between 1997 and 2012). In addition, intra-regional travel continues to be the dominant trend in choosing destinations for Vietnamese tourists, similar to the general trend in the world, with 64.4% of Vietnamese tourists choosing nearby destinations in Asia for their trips in the near future.

According to The Outbox Company, Vietnamese tourists are generally still "loyal" to traditional destinations such as Korea, Japan, Thailand, and Singapore. China is the only new name, replacing Taiwan (China) to become a new prominent destination in the top 5 international destinations loved by Vietnamese tourists. In terms of travel budget, the difficult economic situation continues to directly affect the travel spending budget of the Vietnamese tourist market traveling abroad. Most of the reasons for the increase or decrease in spending by Vietnamese tourists are focused on financial and cost concerns. However, the positive point is that tourism is increasingly becoming an important activity for Vietnamese people when up to 31% of tourists are willing to spend more on travel experiences and 45.6% of Vietnamese tourists still maintain the same travel budget as before. The average spending of Vietnamese tourists on an overseas trip this summer is expected to be between $1,001 and $1,500. Spending levels will vary depending on the destination. For destinations outside Asia, Vietnamese tourists are willing to spend more than $2,000 on a trip.
