Evan El (from the US) has been living in Vietnam for over a year. He regularly shares on his personal YouTube channel videos of his culinary experiences in some of the places he has visited such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang,...

In the newly posted video, Evan introduces 3 dishes typical of Hanoi cuisine that he had the opportunity to enjoy in Da Nang not long ago, including: banh cuon, xoi xeo and bun rieu cua.

“Today, I will try 3 Hanoi-style dishes that I consider to be the best breakfasts,” Evan said.

Evan enjoyed the soft-boiled egg roll with ham, minced pork and wood ear mushrooms.

The first dish the Western guest suggested was banh cuon. He commented that this dish was very delicious and reasonably priced, about 15,000 - 20,000 VND/serving.

“Banh cuon is one of my all-time favorite dishes,” said an American tourist.

Western guests like banh cuon because of its smoothness, unique flavor and light feeling even when full.

In his opinion, Vietnamese rice rolls are varied, from wood ear meat filling to soft-boiled egg omelette filling… served with cinnamon sausage or grilled meat, fried onions and special dipping sauce.

“The rice rolls are thin, soft and quite light. I can eat 5 or 6 plates like this at once. If you eat the rice rolls alone, you won’t taste anything other than steamed rice flour, but if you eat them with minced meat, wood ear mushrooms and sausage, they are delicious and rich,” Evan shared.

The next Hanoi-style dish that Western guests find delicious to enjoy for breakfast is sticky rice with green beans.

At a sidewalk stall, he ordered a mixed sticky rice dish for 35,000 VND, including ingredients such as shredded mung beans, shredded pork floss, steamed sausage, Chinese sausage, soy sauce-soaked eggs, fried onions...

Male tourists rate this dish as quite affordable with prices depending on the ingredients and portion the diner wants.

Evan has many compliments for the mixed sticky rice dish.

In terms of appearance, Evan commented that the mixed sticky rice dish is quite attractive, "basically looking like a boxed buffet at a popular price".

In terms of taste, he feels that the sticky rice is soft and chewy, and is delicious when eaten with salty dishes. In addition, the restaurant has added some unique ingredients such as sweet and spicy sauce, eggs soaked in soy sauce, etc. to create a variety of flavors, suitable for the preferences and tastes of local people.

“This dish is great for me. It has the perfect combination of soft sticky rice, finely shredded mung beans, salty shredded pork floss and fragrant crispy fried onions. This is a great breakfast,” Evan shared his feelings.

Bun rieu cua is the dish that Western guests rate as the best Hanoi-style breakfast.

Bun rieu cua is the last dish that a Western guest rated as "the best breakfast in Hanoi" and suggested diners should try.

He enjoyed a bowl of mixed crab noodle soup for 45,000 VND, served with ingredients such as beef, crab soup, fried tofu, ham, and fish cake.

“The broth is delicious,” Evan exclaimed after taking a taste.

American tourists say that bun rieu has a unique flavor from the broth, so not all foreign tourists like it.

However, in his personal opinion, he finds this breakfast dish nutritious and diverse in flavor thanks to the harmonious combination of different ingredients.

“It’s hard to describe the sophisticated taste of Hanoi crab noodle soup. This is truly the best breakfast because it can give you enough energy to work for many hours,” he shared.
