Due to the impact of storm No. 3, from the night of September 6 to the morning of September 7, Co To Island experienced strong winds and heavy rain. At 8:20 am today, storm No. 3 caused large waves and heavy rain and wind in Co To district.
Ms. Le Thi Loan (born in 1981), owner of CoTo View Hotel, Co To Island, said that her hotel has 13 rooms that regularly serve tourists, but is now serving people who come to stay for free to avoid the storm.
Ms. Loan said that realizing this was a storm of great intensity, she and her husband discussed and decided to let people with fragile houses stay.
Immediately after that, Ms. Loan posted information on social media with the address and phone number so that people could find the hotel. Those who were not in good health were picked up by Ms. Loan and her husband, hotel staff, and local authorities in coordination with the local government.
By around 11pm last night, more than 30 people from many households on Co To Island had come to stay at Ms. Loan’s hotel. All the people who came here were households and workers with unstable houses or rented rooms to live on the island.
"The island is currently without electricity. The hotel is currently running a generator to provide electricity for residents, and all meals are served free of charge. At times like this, we really need to support and protect each other," said Ms. Loan.
According to Ms. Loan, there are currently 9 rooms used for people to stay and will continue to accept cases in need.
