Kien Giang The Maroon 5 effect has caused accommodation facilities near the performance venue to increase in customers, some places reaching up to 90% capacity.
Data from Mustgo, a booking platform with 2,000 hotel partners nationwide, shows that during December 15-16, room occupancy of accommodation establishments in the northern area of Phu Quoc island increased by 20-30% compared to the same period last week.
Specifically, Wyndham Grand Phu Quoc reached about 40%, Wyndham Garden Grandworld Phu Quoc reached 50%, Radisson Blu about 60%. These are all 5-star hotels with a large number of rooms, Radisoon Blu has 514 rooms, Wyndham Grand Phu Quoc and Wyndham Garden Grandworld Phu Quoc have 1,399 rooms and 921 rooms respectively.
Sheraton Phu Quoc Long Beach Resort and Crowne Plaza Phu Quoc Starbay both reached around 80% occupancy due to the large number of foreign visitors at the end of the year. Meanwhile, Vinpearl Phu Quoc resort complex, including three hotels and resorts, had room occupancy rates of 80-90%. A Mustgo representative commented that this was understandable because the main event was held at the 8Wonder stage, Phu Quoc United Center on the evening of December 16.

Previously, many hotels in the northern part of the island had offered a 25% discount on listed room rates from December 14 to December 19 for guests who bought tickets to the concert featuring Maroon 5. Ms. Lan Anh, sales manager of a large hotel in the northern part of the island, commented that tickets to the event were not cheap (1-10 million VND), so she could not put more pressure on tourists.
Airfares from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc have also increased by 1.6-2.3 times compared to the same period in previous weeks. According to ticket office data from Best Price, round-trip airfares from Hanoi to Phu Quoc from December 15 to December 17 are around VND5.8 million. At the same time two weeks ago, ticket prices were VND3.4 million and VND3.7 million, respectively.
The average round-trip airfare for the Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Quoc route from December 15 to December 17 is around VND3.6 million; at the same time two weeks ago, the prices were VND1.5 million and VND2.1 million, respectively.
According to Vietnam Airlines Corporation, on December 15, there were a total of 29 domestic flights to Phu Quoc, 9 more than on December 14. On December 16, there were 24 flights to Phu Quoc, 20 of which landed before 5:25 p.m., more than an hour before the event.
Mr. Nguyen Vu Khac Huy, Vice President of Kien Giang Province Tourism Association, commented that the appearance of Maroon 5 brings a positive signal to the tourism industry in the "pearl island". Tourism businesses in the city need to know how to take advantage of the event to promote their products to tourists.
"Phu Quoc has great potential to become a leading destination for tourism products combining sports and entertainment. Both the north and south of the island often have attractive events, depending on the time," said Mr. Huy.
