Central region hotels are almost fully booked, 80% are international guests

Many hotels are almost full.

This year's 2024 Lunar New Year holiday lasts 7 days (February 8-14), Ms. Hai Yen (Ba Dinh, Hanoi) decided to book plane tickets for the whole family to travel to Da Nang - Hoi An, departing on the first day of Tet. According to Ms. Yen, almost every year during Tet, the whole family goes on a Spring trip to domestic tourist destinations.

Hoiana Resort Chairman Steve Wolstenholme said that the resort is expected to welcome about 2,000 guests during this year’s Lunar New Year. Compared to last year’s Lunar New Year, this year, the total capacity of Hoiana Resort has increased by 600 rooms, and the number of guests during this period has also increased.

“Some days during Tet are almost full, guests mainly stay from February 10-14 (1st-5th lunar day), the highest room occupancy rate is expected to be up to 95%. The majority of guests during this holiday are groups and families,” said Mr. Steve Wolstenholme.

This year, the resort’s largest international tourist market during the Lunar New Year is still Korea and Taiwan, accounting for about 80%. As for the domestic market, the number of Vietnamese guests staying at Hoiana during the Lunar New Year has also increased sharply compared to normal days, mainly family groups.

This year in particular, Hoiana Resort & Golf cooperated with the My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board to organize a Cham dance art program right on the resort grounds to promote local culture and art, creating a highlight to attract international tourists...

Similarly, a representative of the Da Nang Mikazuki Hotel informed that during the 2024 Lunar New Year, the hotel is estimated to reach 85% room occupancy. The busiest days are from the 30th to the 3rd of the Lunar New Year, with 65% of international guests coming from Taiwan, South Korea, Australia and the US.

"Last year our room occupancy rate during the Lunar New Year holiday was over 90%, but there were quite a few last minute bookings so we still hope this year will reach the same rate as last year or even higher," said a hotel representative. To serve Tet holiday guests, this unit will organize many traditional Tet activities such as pot smashing, can throwing, ring throwing, gourd and crab... taking place on the afternoon of the 3rd and 4th day of Tet and enjoy typical Tet dishes.

Expecting walk-in traffic, last minute bookings

Ms. Ngo Thi Huong, Deputy Director of Muong Thanh Luxury Danang Hotel, said that up to now, the hotel room occupancy rate has reached about 70%, mainly Korean guests. The busiest days are the 2nd and 4th days of Tet.

“The special thing about this year’s Lunar New Year is that international guests make up the majority, up to 70%. For domestic guests, we are expecting the number of guests booking close to Tet, as well as families who may come to book rooms during their Spring trip,” said Ms. Huong, adding that it will be difficult for rooms to be “sold out” during this Lunar New Year.

On this occasion, the hotel will organize a welcoming ceremony for the first guests to arrive after New Year's Eve, decorate the Tet check-in area, cook banh chung for poor children...

In the 3-star hotel segment, Ms. My Trinh, Director of Bien Vang Hotel (Pham Van Dong Street) shared that the hotel is currently at 50% capacity, of which Taiwanese guests account for more than half.

“In addition to guests who book rooms in advance, every year the hotel also welcomes a large number of independent travelers. The number of visitors during Tet from Hue, Quang Nam, and neighboring provinces. This number of guests accounts for 20-30% of the total capacity. Usually from the 2nd day onwards, there will be a lot of guests booking rooms,” he predicted.

During the Lunar New Year, in Da Nang and Quang Nam, many programs will take place to welcome the new year.

Da Nang will launch fireworks at 0:00 on February 10 at 3 locations: Bach Dang Street, Lien Chieu District Administrative Center and Hoa Vang. Many special programs will take place such as: New Year's Eve art performance to celebrate the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024 taking place at the East Bank Park of Dragon Bridge on February 9; Han River Dance program at the West Bank of Dragon Bridge on February 11; from February 9 to 11, singing and chanting Bai Choi performances to serve people during Tet on the banks of the Han River...

In Hoi An (Quang Nam province), the art program and fireworks display on New Year's Eve, welcoming the New Year of Giap Thin 2024 will take place from 11pm on February 9 (the night of the 30th of Tet) at Hoi An Park. Along with that, a number of entertainment activities will also be organized such as: "Spring Water Island" boat racing; folk games of Bai Choi, blindfolded pot smashing; Street music exchange; Hat Boi art performance; Entertainment activities are regularly organized in open spaces in Hoi An ancient town, communes, wards...
