According to Decision 998/QD-TTg issued on August 27, the Prime Minister, based on legal regulations and the proposal of the Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, decided to extend the operating period of the Food Safety Management Board of Da Nang City.
The Da Nang City Food Safety Management Board was established on a pilot basis in 2017 (according to Decision 1268/QD-TTg dated August 25, 2017 of the Prime Minister), for a period of 3 years. After that, it was allowed to continue operating on a pilot basis for another 3 years, according to Decision 1319/QD-TTg dated August 28, 2020 of the Prime Minister.
Up to now, according to Decision 998/QD-TTg, the Food Safety Management Board of Da Nang City is allowed to continue operating "until there is a decision from the competent authority on the official organizational model for food safety management of Da Nang City".

In 2017, the Da Nang City Food Safety Management Board was piloted.
The Prime Minister also assigned the People's Committee of Da Nang City to be responsible for evaluating the results of the pilot implementation of the Food Safety Management Board; and coordinating with ministries and branches in the process of researching and amending relevant legal regulations.
Previously, on August 18 in Hanoi, the Standing Committee of the Da Nang City Party Committee worked with the Ministry of Planning and Investment on the preliminary review of the pilot urban government model and some specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Da Nang City.
Da Nang City proposed 30 mechanisms and policies for the Central Government to consider and comment on. Of these, 26 mechanisms and policies are under the authority of the National Assembly; 4 mechanisms and policies are under the authority of the Government and the Prime Minister.
The Food Safety Management Board unifies the focal points in the inspection and resolution of food-related issues.
These proposals are similar to resolutions already applied to a number of provinces and cities across the country.
In particular, Da Nang City proposed to establish the Department of Food Safety as a specialized agency under the city (similar to Ho Chi Minh City).
Previously, as Thanh Nien reported, the Da Nang City Food Safety Management Board was piloted and operated on the basis of reorganizing the Food Safety and Hygiene Department (Department of Health), the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Product Quality Management (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) and the food safety management functions and tasks of the Technical Safety and Environment Management Department (now the Industrial Management Department, under the Department of Industry and Trade).
According to the assessment, after the pilot period, the Food Safety Management Board has shown high efficiency, eliminated overlap in previous specialized management work, became a unified focal point and promoted the role of state management.
Therefore, there is a need for an official organizational model to address urgent food safety issues of society; especially for Da Nang City, where the "4 Safe City" project is being implemented, including food safety, security and order, traffic safety and social security.
