After a four-year hiatus, Chanel's new collection presentation will once again be held at the Grand Palais in Paris, France. This venue has been the site of the French fashion house's fashion shows for decades. Due to the need for restoration, the brand had to choose other locations.

The historic, light-filled exhibition hall with its iconic cage-like glass dome inspired Chanel's creative team to turn to the theme of birds and aviation.

Jennie's styling controversy

As usual, Jennie's appearance - Chanel ambassador since 2017 - at Paris Fashion Week (France) always becomes the center of attention. This time, the female idol's appearance is said to go beyond her comfort zone. She changed her typical brown hair to a blonde tone. According to Teen Vogue , this is just a wig (Photo: Geoffroy Van Der Hasselt).

What made her stand out from the crowd was the blue long-sleeved sweater combined with turquoise shorts. Although it attracted attention, Jennie's look also received a lot of criticism.

Many people commented on the platforms that the hair and outfit did not match. Moreover, Jennie did not suit light hair tones. Meanwhile, the majority of fans still commented that Jennie looked like a real-life Barbie doll.

When the creative director's chair remains vacant

Following Virginie Viard's surprise departure in June, this was Chanel's first ready-to-wear show without a creative director. "It will probably take a while," Bruno Pavlovsky, the house's fashion president, told WWD . "Right now, I don't know when that might change."

The Spring-Summer 2025 collection is said to be a tribute to women who have freed themselves from society's heavy gaze. The inspiration came from a little-known photo of founder Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel.

In the photo, she waves a scarf over a hill. Her quote, “People always want to put me in a cage,” was quoted on a card left on a seat during the show (Photo: Chanel).

The team channeled her independent spirit through 1960s-inspired monochrome tweed suits, paired with slit skirts or shorts for freedom of movement. Belted jumpsuits and tweed aviator jackets with ruffled fur collars also made an appearance on the runway (Photo: Getty).

Alongside the billowing evening gowns trimmed with ostrich feathers, there were also popular items such as pastel knit and crochet dresses, studded jeans, and colorful satin dresses (Photo: Getty).

Finally, Riley Keough closed the show by singing When Doves Cry while sitting in mid-air. Many noted the unfortunate coincidence that Stella McCartney had used the same song the day before to end her show calling for an end to the use of feathers in fashion.

However, that is not the biggest problem Chanel has to face right now. "While the Spring-Summer 2025 collection is considered a commendable effort, it also highlights the urgency of solidifying the creative vision of the $20 billion brand," WWD concluded (Photo: Getty).
