(CLO) Several loud explosions were heard in the Iranian capital Tehran and the nearby city of Karaj early Saturday morning (October 26), according to Iranian media. Israel later confirmed that it had attacked enemy military targets.
Iranian state television said several loud explosions were heard around the capital, but there was no official comment on the source of the blasts.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed it had carried out airstrikes on Iran. In a statement, the IDF said it was carrying out “precision strikes” on Iranian military targets.

“The Iranian regime and its regional proxies have relentlessly attacked Israel since October 7 – on seven fronts – including direct attacks from Iranian territory,” the military said.
“Like every other sovereign nation in the world, the State of Israel has the right and the duty to respond,” the statement continued. The IDF said its “defensive and offensive capabilities are fully mobilized” and “will do whatever is necessary to protect the State of Israel and the people of Israel.”
Israel has planned a response to Iran's ballistic missile launch on October 1 - Tehran's second direct attack on Israel in six months.
In a short video statement, Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said there was currently no change to the guidance for civilians as airstrikes were still being carried out in Iran.
“The IDF is fully prepared for both offense and defense. We are monitoring developments from Iran and its proxies in the region,” he said.
“We are continuously assessing the situation on the domestic front and at this stage, there is no change in the instructions of the Domestic Front Command. You must remain vigilant and alert, and follow the instructions of the Domestic Front Command,” Hagari added, adding that further updates would be provided as needed.
Iranian authorities have warned Israel against attacking, saying any attack on Iran would be met with a more severe retaliation. Syrian state TV also reported hearing explosions in the countryside and around the capital Damascus.
