BLOOMBERG. The Nikkei 225 index in the trading session on February 22 increased by more than 760 points to 39,029 , surpassing the record of 38,957.44 recorded in December 1989.
YONHAP. South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yu holds talks with his Japanese counterpart Kamikawa Yoko on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

KOREA TIMES. The South Korean government will relax regulations on Green Belts, areas where development is restricted, to boost the local economy and strategic industries.
YONHAP. A US F-16 fighter jet dumped two fuel tanks into the sea off the west coast of South Korea during an emergency before returning safely to base.
MONTSAME. Severe winter weather with snow covering more than 80% of Mongolia has killed more than 1.5 million livestock, the Mongolian State Emergency Commission (SEC) said.
ATION THAILAND. The Thai Navy, in coordination with the US Navy, began salvaging the corvette HTMS Sukhothai, which sank about 35 km off the coast of Prachuap Khiri Khan on December 18, 2022, after encountering a storm.
TEMPO. The Indonesian government has cut its target for transferring senior civil servants to the new capital this year to 6,000, from an initial target of more than 11,900.
THE STAR. Malaysia welcomed 17.8 million tourists in the first 11 months of last year, up 116.5% from the previous year and exceeding the target of 16.1 million.
PTI. The 12th Milan naval exercise took place in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India from February 19-27 with the participation of about 50 international naval forces.
TIMES OF ISRAEL. Israeli defense electronics company Elbit Systems unveiled a multi-mission unmanned aerial system (UAS) called the Hermes 650 Spark.
WION. There are early signs of progress in negotiations to release hostages kidnapped and held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Israeli War Cabinet member Benny Gantz said.

EURO NEWS. The EU is refocusing its efforts on modernising the bloc's telecoms sector with new proposals aimed at creating stronger European companies and a more level playing field.
GUARDIAN. British House of Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle is facing calls to resign after chaos in the House of Commons debate on the Gaza ceasefire on 21 February.

AFP. Denmark has agreed to provide a $247.4 million military aid package to Ukraine, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said.
FRANCE 24. French startup Zeway will expand its battery-swappable electric scooter service to cities across the country as well as in Spain and Italy.
DW. German police raided locations in four states as part of a major operation by the European Union's police agency (Europol) to clamp down on human trafficking groups involved in illegal migration across the English Channel.
LE PAIS. Italian police have arrested 12 people believed to be members of a gang that smuggled people between Tunisia and Sicily on "luxury" dinghies.
REUTERS. Albania's parliament has approved a deal to allow the creation of Italian-run centres on Albanian territory to handle thousands of migrants rescued at sea while their asylum applications are processed.
AFP. A major criminal organization involved in the production and trafficking of cannabis was dismantled in an operation led by the Belgian federal judicial police in the province of Namur.
America
REUTERS. US President Joe Biden has approved Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte as NATO Secretary General , replacing Jens Stoltenberg, whose term ends next October.

NBC NEWS. The US State Department has approved a potential sale worth about $75 million to Taiwan (China) to develop a plan to upgrade its advanced tactical data link system.
CNN. The US Department of Justice has officially announced its first official specializing in artificial intelligence (AI), Mr. Jonathan Mayer , Professor specializing in technology and law at Princeton University.
AFP. Venezuela and Russia have achieved impressive results in cooperation, especially in the agricultural sector, President Nicolas Maduro said in an interview on the Venezolana de Television channel.
BBC. A London court has ruled that Argentina must pay nearly €310m ($336m) in appeal deposits after losing a case brought by four hedge funds over payments due on GDP-linked bonds.
ATV. The Peruvian Prosecutor's Office has decided to open a preliminary investigation into former President Martín Vizcarra (in office from 2018-2020) on charges of corruption and bribery.
AP. Costa Rica dismantled a large-scale drug trafficking and storage network from Colombia through Costa Rica to Mexico, with 7 raids and 3 arrests.

THE CITIZEN. Thousands of people in northern Mozambique have been forced to flee their homes due to a new outbreak of unrest in an area where Islamist insurgents are active.

IOM. As of January 2024, drought, floods and conflict in Somalia have displaced more than 3.45 million people internally, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
