Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên03/10/2024

The Times of Israel newspaper on the afternoon of October 2 quoted an announcement from the Israeli military saying that the impact of missiles launched by Iran caused damage to office buildings and other maintenance areas in the air bases hit by the missiles.

However, the Israeli military asserted that all the impacts of the missiles launched by Iran on the air bases were considered "ineffective", meaning that they did not cause any harm to the continued operations of the Israeli Air Force (IAF).

The Israeli military also confirmed that there was no damage to fighter jets, drones, ammunition and critical infrastructure.

The Israeli military noted that the IAF continued operations in the following hours, including major strikes against Hezbollah forces in the Lebanese capital Beirut, support for ground forces in southern Lebanon and attacks in the Gaza Strip.

Israel says attack on Lebanon only targeted Hezbollah

The Times of Israel quoted Israeli health officials as saying that there were no serious injuries in the attack on the evening of October 1 by Iran, only two civilians were slightly injured by shrapnel in Tel Aviv.

Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Herzi Halevi reaffirmed on the afternoon of October 2 that Israel will respond to Iran's missile attack, emphasizing that the Israeli army has the ability to "reach and strike any point in the Middle East".

"Yesterday, Iran launched about 200 missiles at the State of Israel. Iran attacked residential areas and endangered the lives of many civilians. Thanks to proper civil behavior and high-quality defense capabilities, the damage was relatively small," Mr. Halevi affirmed.

"We will respond, we know how to identify important targets, we know how to strike precisely and powerfully," Halevi declared.

Nearly 10 million people in Israel took to bomb shelters on the evening of October 1, as bullets and interceptor missiles exploded in the sky.

The IDF said it intercepted "a large number" of the approximately 200 missiles launched by Iran on the evening of October 1. According to the IDF, the missiles fired at Israel on the evening of October 1 were not hypersonic missiles as Iran had claimed.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had used the Fattah missile for the first time, which it described as a "hypersonic supersonic missile".

Hypersonic weapons, which travel at speeds above Mach 5 (6,200 km/h), five times the speed of sound, could pose serious challenges to missile defense systems because of their speed and maneuverability. Iran describes the Fattah as being able to reach speeds of Mach 15.

The IDF asserted that Iran does not possess hypersonic missiles and that the missiles launched by Iran at Israel were not maneuverable.

The IDF said on the evening of October 1 that Israel's air defenses were "effective" and that the US also participated in protecting Israel by detecting the threat from Iran in advance and intercepting some missiles.

There is currently no information about Iran's reaction to Israel's statement.
