(CLO) At least 15 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on residential buildings in Damascus on Thursday (November 14), according to Syrian state media.
The targeted buildings were located in the suburbs of Mazzeh and Qudsaya, both west of the Syrian capital, SANA news agency reported, citing Syrian military sources. Israel said the strikes targeted military sites belonging to the Islamic Jihad group.

Israel has been carrying out airstrikes against Iran-linked targets in Syria for years, but has stepped up such attacks since the Gaza war erupted following Hamas' October 7 attack on Israel.
According to residents who fled the recent airstrikes, commanders of the Syrian militant group Hezbollah are believed to be residing in Mazzeh. High-rise buildings in Mazzeh have previously been used as residences for leaders of Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Jihad.
Syrian state media also reported that an Israeli strike completely destroyed a bridge in Qusayr, southwest of the Syrian city of Homs, near the border with Lebanon.
Israel is also intensifying its fierce air strikes on Hezbollah strongholds near the Lebanese capital Beirut. "We are asking God to help us," said Ayat, a 33-year-old Lebanese woman.
The Israeli military said its warplanes targeted Hezbollah weapons depots, military headquarters and other sites.
In addition, Israeli airstrikes were also carried out on the eastern city of Baalbek and towns in southern Lebanon, killing at least 31 more people.
The attacks came amid diplomatic talks on a ceasefire in Lebanon between the US Ambassador to Lebanon and Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Thursday, which were said to be “progressing well”.
