An Israel Defense Forces (IDF) drone struck a car carrying two senior Hamas members in the West Bank city of Jenin on August 17. The two senior members were named Ahmed Abu Ara and Rafet Dawasi.
According to a statement from the IDF press service, both members of the Hamas group were killed in the attack. The IDF revealed that the two men were involved in planning the shooting in the West Bank on August 11, which killed an Israeli citizen.
The Israeli military has released video of the attack on Abu Ara and Dawasi. Images posted online show different angles of the attack. In one video, the explosion is captured on the dash cam of a car following the target. In another, the car is seen burning in the middle of the road.
In a statement, Hamas' Al-Qassam Brigades said they were paying tribute to the two men. The statement said Dawasi was the leader of Al-Qassam in Jenin, and Ara was the leader of Al-Qassam in Aqaba.
Hamas said the attack was in response to an earlier allegation that Israel had attacked a school in Gaza housing refugees, killing 90 Palestinians.
Violence in the West Bank has escalated since fighting in Gaza between Israel and Hamas broke out last October.
