On September 22, Qatar-based Al Jazeera TV station said that Israeli forces raided its office in Ramallah in the West Bank, occupied it and issued a 45-day closure order.
Al Jazeera quoted a live-streamed conversation between journalist Walid al-Omari and an Israeli soldier, in which the Israeli soldier announced "There is a court ruling to close Al Jazeera for 45 days".
In May, Israel also shut down Al Jazeera's operations and confiscated some of its equipment. Israel announced that it had blocked Al Jazeera's cable and satellite broadcasts, as well as its website.
The closure comes after Israel passed a law allowing the government to ban foreign networks deemed to pose a threat to national security. Al Jazeera is headquartered in Qatar and has offices in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza. Since the Israel-Hamas conflict broke out in October 2023, the channel has become one of the most active sources of coverage of Israeli military operations and the humanitarian impact of the war in the Gaza Strip.
