Israel launches airstrikes on Beirut and attacks Gaza

The attack on Hezbollah's stronghold south of Beirut came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the group of trying to assassinate him.

Lebanon's official news agency, the National News Agency (NNA), reported that an Israeli airstrike in Beirut destroyed a civilian building in the Haret Hreik neighborhood near a mosque and a hospital.

In southern Lebanon, NNA said Israel struck dozens of sites, including the city of Nabatiyeh, which was targeted by Israel for the third time this week.

The Israeli military said it had hit Hezbollah's intelligence headquarters and an underground weapons factory in Beirut, while killing three Hezbollah members in attacks in southern Lebanon.

Later, the Tel Aviv government said that within minutes about 70 rockets were fired from Lebanon across the border into Israeli territory.

For its part, Hezbollah announced today, October 20, that it had fired several rockets toward Israel, including a series of rockets targeting an Israeli military base east of the northern town of Safed.

On the same day, Gaza civil defense spokesman Mahmud Bassal said at least 73 Palestinians were killed when Israel launched airstrikes on a civilian area in Beit Lahia in the north, according to AFP.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military confirmed that it had dealt with "a Hamas 'terrorist' target", and that the casualty figure announced by Gaza authorities did not match the information they had obtained.

When attacking both Gaza and Lebanon on October 20, Israel said its forces bombarded 175 targets. The Israeli army announced that it would continue the campaign in northern, central and southern Gaza in the coming time.
