The determination of Iran and Saudi Arabia to improve bilateral relations has been clearly demonstrated through the measures and steps taken by the two countries to soon normalize relations.

In a statement on May 13, Iran's Foreign Ministry said that Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, had a phone call on the evening of May 12 about the latest progress in implementing the agreement brokered by China last March.

Iran's foreign minister assessed the progress made by the two sides in normalizing relations, adding that Tehran has taken necessary measures to officially open embassies and consulates in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh and the port city of Jeddah.

For his part, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said Riyadh is optimistic about the future of bilateral relations and has a positive attitude towards efforts to develop and strengthen this relationship.

He expressed hope that the appointment of ambassadors to the two countries will help facilitate the expansion of bilateral cooperation.

In March, in Beijing, Saudi Arabian and Iranian officials reached a breakthrough agreement to restore diplomatic relations , reopening embassies and representative offices within two months.

In early April, the two countries officially announced the resumption of diplomatic relations, effective immediately.

Earlier this week, Iran's foreign minister said Riyadh had announced the appointment of a new ambassador to Iran, noting that Tehran would reciprocate by appointing its own ambassador to Saudi Arabia soon./.
