InterContinental Residences Halong Bay creates a "boost" for Ha Long tourism when it comes into operation in the first quarter of 2025
InterContinental Residences Halong Bay – the first coastal resort under the InterContinental brand in the North is expected to come into operation in the first quarter of 2025, marking a new turning point for luxury resort tourism in Ha Long.
Luxury tourism in Ha Long awaits a "boost"
Over the years, possessing outstanding global values and many domestic and international titles has brought the Ha Long Bay tourism brand closer to international friends, becoming a bright spot on the Asian tourism map.
Statistics for the first 9 months of 2024 show that Quang Ninh welcomed 15.6 million visitors, with total tourism revenue estimated at VND 36,856 billion. Ha Long City is still a "magnet" attracting tourists, welcoming 9.2 million visitors (equivalent to nearly 60% of tourists coming to Quang Ninh), with total tourism revenue estimated at about VND 20,300 billion. Nearly 30% of them are international visitors, reaching 2.13 million, 2.3 times higher than the same period last year, mainly from markets such as China, Korea, Taiwan, the US, India, France, Australia, the UK, Germany, Japan, etc.
With a series of outstanding events that have been and are taking place in Ha Long, such as the largest-ever Indian billionaire super wedding, welcoming a tourist group of 4,500 employees from a leading Indian corporation at the end of August, or in January 2025, this coastal city is expected to welcome a group of 200 European billionaires to attend an event with a scale of more than 80,000 people... partly proving the attractiveness of the Northern tourism capital to the international elite.
However, in reality, Ha Long tourism still has many gaps, preventing the group of "rich" tourists from choosing Ha Long as a long-term stopover for their vacation. The weakness emphasized by experts is the lack of luxury accommodation facilities, especially hotels and resorts with international brands. This makes the group of rich and super-rich tourists in the world tend to visit Ha Long Bay by yacht, or just stop by to visit the heritage bay and then stay overnight in neighboring localities - where there are accommodation facilities that meet international resort standards.
Compared to other famous domestic tourist destinations such as Phu Quoc, Da Nang or Nha Trang... the number of luxury accommodation establishments, 5-star segment in Ha Long is extremely modest. According to statistics of the Department of Tourism of Quang Ninh province, as of the first quarter of 2024, Ha Long city only has 18 accommodation establishments with 5-star rating with a capacity of more than 5,300 rooms. Of these, there are only 2 hotels with international brands: Citadines Marina Halong and Oakwood Ha Long.
The heritage city has not yet attracted many “eagles” in the world hotel industry. For example, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts (IHG) Group - a famous name in the global hotel market, although it entered the Vietnamese market early in 2007 with successful resorts such as Regent Phu Quoc, InterContinental Phu Quoc..., it was not until early 2025 that it officially opened its first resort in the Ha Long market.
Expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2025, InterContinental Residences Halong Bay is the first and only coastal resort in the North with the InterContinental brand. The appearance of this resort is considered a "push", creating momentum for the development of the Ha Long tourism market, while affirming the position of the heritage city on the global luxury tourism map.
Setting a new standard for luxury resorts in Ha Long
Belonging to the luxury real estate segment, InterContinental Residences Halong Bay has created a big buzz in the real estate market with a unique product collection of luxurious ground villas on scarce bay land, unique "sky villas" on heritage heights.

At present, InterContinental Residences Halong Bay is rushing to enter the final stage of completion towards the goal of opening to welcome guests in the first quarter of 2025, ahead of the peak tourist season. The resort includes 174 luxurious rooms and suites, along with 60 high-class resort apartments and 41 luxury villas, bringing additional value to the 5-star accommodation segment in Ha Long, which is still very modest. In addition, with the position of one of the world's leading brands and more than 70 years of development experience, InterContinental will bring to Ha Long - Quang Ninh a completely different standard of luxury in the global service and accommodation industry.
The last “sky villas” in the limited portfolio of InterContinental Residences Halong Bay are also the center of attention in the resort real estate market. These are the most quintessential products reserved for sophisticated investors, a guarantee for wise investment in the resort real estate market that is growing sustainably in Quang Ninh.
