'Singer Dam Vinh Hung's badge is not suitable for Vietnamese culture'

Dam Vinh Hung's use of foreign military-style costumes and accessories with medals and badges is not suitable for the content of the performance as well as Vietnamese culture.

Regarding the incident of singer Dam Vinh Hung wearing a strange badge while performing in the live show " Ngay em den sao troi " in Ho Chi Minh City, on the afternoon of May 23, a representative of the City's Department of Culture and Sports said that the Department had invited related organizations and individuals including Tieng Hat Viet Company Limited, singer Dam Vinh Hung and the designer to a meeting to discuss and record feedback.

According to the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, at the meeting, representatives of agencies and units stated that the use of stylized foreign military-style costumes and accessories with medals and badges by singer Dam Vinh Hung was not suitable for the content of the performances and the overall program, and was not suitable for Vietnamese cultural values.

The above mentioned use of costumes is easily associated with sensitive issues related to politics, causing offense and creating bad public opinion, especially when the whole country is preparing to celebrate important political events, the 49th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, National Reunification; 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

In addition, many press agencies and social networking sites criticized singer Dam Vinh Hung's incident and said that a person with influence on the public choosing inappropriate clothing had caused a negative impact on public opinion and society.

Many opinions from cultural activists, National Assembly deputies, managers, veteran officials and war veterans also commented on the offensiveness of the performance at the program, thereby requesting that the authorities pay attention and handle it in accordance with legal regulations, contributing to building a healthy cultural environment.

Based on analysis, assessment and grasp of relevant information, comparing the Code of Conduct for artists by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism with legal regulations, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City will take measures to propose to competent authorities for consideration and appropriate handling.

Previously, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City had a working session with Tieng Hat Viet Limited Company, the organizer of the show " The Day You Light the Stars ," singer Dam Vinh Hung and the designer.

The Department has reminded and requested event organizers and individuals participating in art performances to further enhance their sense of responsibility, awareness, and pay attention to the issue of costumes and presentation to avoid causing offense and having a negative impact on public opinion./.
