Huawei has just surprised everyone by launching the high-end smartphone Mate 60 Pro on the e-market. According to the advertisement, this is the first smartphone in the world to support satellite calls.

Huawei Mate 60 Pro went on sale at noon on August 29 on the Vmall e-commerce platform with a price of 6,999 yuan (23.2 million VND). The device runs the Harmony 4.0 operating system and can use the Pangu AI model developed by Huawei itself. However, information about the chip in the device or network connection has not been listed on the official website.

Currently, only Huawei’s flagship store in Shenzhen is selling the Mate 60 Pro directly. When a reporter from the South China Morning Post visited the store at 6 p.m., about 25 customers were lined up outside. Even the sales staff were confused, however, as the company had not yet announced whether the device supported 4G or 5G. “All I can say is that the connection speed is very fast,” said one employee.

In a letter to users, Huawei announced that sales of the Mate series have exceeded 100 million units since its launch in 2013. The surprise introduction of the Mate 60 Pro was watched with caution by observers as the company seeks to revive its smartphone division.

In early August 2023, Richard Yu Chengdong, head of Huawei's consumer and automotive division, said that the company's high-end smartphones "will come back" after a difficult period due to the US embargo. In the first half of 2023, Huawei entered the top 5 smartphone brands in the mainland, selling 14.3 million smartphones, according to data from research firm IDC.

Before being banned by the US from buying chips, software and some other advanced technologies in 2019, Huawei at one point surpassed Samsung and became the world's number 1 mobile manufacturer.

The giant has yet to launch a 5G smartphone since late 2020. In April, the company launched a new P series smartphone after more than a year of delay. The latest Mate model was launched in September 2022. However, both only support 4G.

According to Reuters, Huawei plans to release a 5G smartphone later this year when it receives new chip sources from local suppliers.
