Like many local households, the family economy of Ms. Vu Thi Nhung, in village 1, Dak Ha commune, is completely dependent on agriculture. Mainly growing short-term crops, although she has tried to learn planting and care techniques, the yield is still not as expected.
Opening up new development directions when linking with cooperatives
One of the reasons why Ms. Nhung’s family’s agricultural production is still ineffective is that spontaneous production leads to unstable output and prices. Some crops bring stable income, but many also result in heavy losses.
But since two years ago, when her family joined the Dak Ha High-Tech Agricultural Cooperative to grow crops that the cooperative specializes in such as eggplant, tomato, zucchini, etc. With support in seeds and care techniques, the results have changed significantly.
Linking production with cooperatives is opening up a sustainable economic direction for many people in Dak Nong. |
“We are guaranteed output and the price is higher than the market price. Every year we earn several hundred million, my family can pay off the bank loan and start saving,” said Ms. Nhung.
In fact, Ms. Nhung's family is just one of dozens of households here that are collaborating with Dak Ha High-Tech Agricultural Cooperative to produce vegetables, tubers, and fruits that bring high economic efficiency.
According to the leader of this cooperative, one of the "secrets" that helps the cooperative's connection with member households here to be successful is that the cooperative has focused on production in the direction of applying high technology, and members when joining the cooperative will be equipped with knowledge and modern production skills.
Thanks to that, although it has only been established for more than 2 years, the cooperative is becoming a typical example in the story of the connection between cooperatives and farmers. Every year, it produces hundreds of tons of vegetables, tubers, and fruits that meet VietGAP standards, supplying the market.
Currently, the cooperative has 8 official members, 30 hectares of production land and 30 associated households with about 60 hectares of land. The crops put into production by the cooperative are green vegetables, eggplant, radish, tomato, banana (fragrant banana) intercropped with fruit trees such as durian, longan, macadamia...
In Dak Nong, association models such as Dak Ha High-Tech Agricultural Cooperative are quite popular. In particular, in the field of coffee planting and production, one of the province's leading strengths, cooperatives are also fully promoting.
For example, Thuan An Cooperative is becoming the first cooperative to produce Arabica coffee under the Fair Trade method in Vietnam. Currently, the Cooperative has joined hands with 6 other coffee cooperatives in the region and small producers to expand the market. The Cooperative has 112 members, thanks to the methodical organization of production, the coffee output on the 480ha area of the members is always stable at a high level, reaching an average of 674 tons/crop, bringing in revenue of 11-18 billion VND/year.
Mr. Vo Ly, a member of the cooperative, shared: “Since the cooperative has linked production with businesses, my family’s coffee has always been sold at a higher price than the market. I have been guided and trained in the safest, most economical and highest quality coffee production. Thanks to that, over the years, my family has no longer had to worry about the fluctuation of coffee prices.”
Currently, Dak Nong has more than 139,000 hectares of coffee, with an average yield of 2.8 tons/ha, an output of more than 350,000 tons, and an export output of about 120,000 tons, with an export turnover of about 215 million USD/year. Of which, about 23,000 hectares are produced according to standards, with an output of 82,000 tons/year. Currently, Dak Nong coffee products have been exported to 20 countries around the world.
Sustainable direction
To support the development and spread of these models, in recent times, the People's Committee of Dak Nong province has issued many programs, projects, plans, and policy mechanisms to promote investment attraction and development of production linkages to encourage investment, production linkages, and development of high-tech agricultural zones...
However, to be frank, agricultural production in the province is still spontaneous, small-scale production is not yet commercial, agricultural development does not comply with projects, planning, plans, and orientations of the provincial agricultural sector and lacks sustainability...
Coffee is one of Dak Nong's key crops and is being promoted by cooperatives to link up planting and production, bringing high export value. |
At the Dak Nong Provincial Agricultural Product Production and Consumption Linking Forum 2023 held at the end of May, Chairman of the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee, Ho Van Muoi, emphasized the role and position of the agricultural sector as one of the three pillars of the province's economy. The consistent view of the provincial leaders is to always respect the position and role of the business community, cooperatives, and investors in linking production with agricultural product consumption.
The leader of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the total agricultural land area of the province is over 378 thousand hectares, accounting for 58% of the natural area with over 130 different types of crops and livestock. In which, cultivation is the industry that accounts for the majority of the total agricultural production value with a total annual planting area of over 320 thousand hectares. The whole province has 03 cooperative unions, 193 agricultural cooperatives; agricultural cooperatives operate in a variety of fields such as cultivation, livestock, provision of agricultural services, and post-harvest services.
In that context, the provincial leaders emphasized: "In the coming time, the province will continue to deploy and effectively implement the Project on restructuring the agricultural sector towards increasing added value, adapting to climate change and sustainably developing Dak Nong province by 2020, with a vision to 2030. Promote linkages, build large-scale production areas, suitable for each type of agricultural product, and build value chains for agricultural products in a sustainable manner."
