HPA spends more than 3 billion VND to prevent malaria for people in 3 mountainous communes of Quang Tri

The People's Committee of Quang Tri province has just issued Decision No. 848/QD-UBND dated April 12, 2024 approving the project document "Malaria prevention for mobile people in the period 2024 - 2026" for the communes: Xy, A Doi, Thuan in Huong Hoa district, sponsored by Health Poverty Action (HPA) with an amount of more than 3 billion VND.

The project "Malaria prevention for mobile people in the period of 2024 - 2026" aims to support malaria prevention (PCSR) for mobile people, especially forest dwellers and border crossers in 3 communes of Huong Hoa district (Quang Tri province), towards eliminating Artemisinin-resistant P.falciparum by 2025 and eliminating malaria in Vietnam by 2030.

Implemented in the communes of Xy, A Doi, Thuan in Huong Hoa district, which are localities with a large number of migrant people, the project also helps the team of medical staff, coordinators, volunteers and village medical staff of the 3 communes to improve the quality of monitoring, treatment of cases and skills in collecting information and communicating to the community.

In addition, the team of medical staff, coordinators, volunteers and village health workers of the three communes: Xy, A Doi, Thuan were also trained in knowledge and skills to effectively implement the Project's activities in the area, gradually reducing the number of new infections, moving towards the roadmap to eliminate malaria, contributing to the work of protecting and taking care of people's health.

Health Poverty Action (HPA) is a UK-based international non-governmental organization founded in 1984 with the Organization's goal of supporting poor and disadvantaged people with health issues.

HPA's support is primarily related to infectious diseases and maternal health care programs in disadvantaged communities and through cross-border cooperation programs.

HPA started operating in Vietnam in 2016. Currently, HPA is implementing projects on malaria and tuberculosis prevention in 7 provinces including: Dak Nong, Dak Lak, Binh Thuan, Phu Yen, Quang Tri, Binh Phuoc, Gia Lai.
