Yemen's Houthi forces have announced that they have postponed the release of about 100 government prisoners, which was scheduled for May 25.

A Houthi official said the delay was due to "technical reasons" and the release would be carried out at a later date.
Earlier, on May 24, the head of the Houthi group's prisoner affairs department, Abdul Qader al-Murtada, announced that the group would release more than 100 prisoners in "a unilateral humanitarian initiative".
The last time the Houthis released prisoners was in April 2023, when they released 70 members of the Yemeni government forces in exchange for 250 Houthis.
The Houthis, a movement believed to be backed by Iran, control part of Yemen, a country engulfed in years of civil war that has killed tens of thousands of people and left millions starving.
The Houthis are the de facto government in northern Yemen, while the internationally recognized government is represented by the Political Leadership Council, which was formed under Saudi Arabia's auspices last year and took over power from Yemen's exiled president.
