THAI NGUYEN In localities that have not attracted many investment enterprises, cooperatives have shown their role in linking farmers, exploiting potentials, and building organic agricultural areas.
Currently, the development of agriculture according to organic standards has been positively responded by farmers in Phu Luong district (Thai Nguyen). Besides the advantages, there are still many difficulties and challenges for Phu Luong agriculture to reach out to the domestic and export markets.
One of the difficulties in promoting the value of local agricultural products is that the production practices of the people are still fragmented and small-scale, following the household economy. Therefore, when implementing, it requires perseverance and a consistent orientation of production linkages between households.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huu, Secretary of Phu Luong District Party Committee (Thai Nguyen) said that the locality identified the linkage between production households and cooperatives as the core, contributing to the formation of organic agriculture.

In building specialized and concentrated raw material areas, cooperatives play the role of a bridge between businesses and farmers, and accompany people in production consulting, technology transfer, and market development orientation.
For example, in Phu Luong district, the development of Khe Coc Safe Tea Cooperative (Tuc Tranh commune) not only contributes to exploiting the value of local tea products but also creates other values such as tourism and environmental protection. From there, it builds an ecological, quality, safe and transparent agriculture.
“For organic agriculture to create a breakthrough in income for people, it requires perseverance and efforts from all parties. In the coming time, Phu Luong district will continue to accompany farmers, cooperatives, businesses and scientists in developing organic agriculture through supporting activities in science and technology, materials, promotion and brand building,” said Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huu.
In recent times, in areas that are still facing difficulties and have not attracted many businesses to invest in developing agricultural production in general and organic agriculture in particular in Phu Luong district, cooperatives have demonstrated their role in linking and exploiting local potentials, such as On Luong Lychee Agricultural Cooperative; Phu Luong Agricultural Cooperative; Khe Coc Safe Tea Cooperative, etc.
The quality of cooperative development is demonstrated by the increasing number of cooperatives participating in the value chain and applying science and technology to production.
Mr. To Van Khiem, Director of Khe Coc Safe Tea Cooperative, said that the cooperative is playing an increasingly important role as a focal point for farmers. The cooperative creates a position in the chain, linking with businesses to organize farmers to produce agricultural products that meet the standards required by the market as well as increasingly strict export standards. Thanks to that, the number of agricultural products with chemical residues exceeding the permitted level and not meeting export standards is decreasing.

According to Mr. Khiem, the linkage between cooperatives, the linkage between farmers and scientists, the state, banks and enterprises needs to be implemented better to create a stable market, with mutual support to diversify products with many customer segments and increase product value. When people see their income increase, they will voluntarily respond to production linkage, comply with production processes to ensure product quality, however, to do that requires perseverance, high determination and not being hasty.
Currently, to support the development of organic products, Phu Luong district has implemented many solutions to maintain and develop the certified trademark "Phu Luong tea", the collective trademark "Tuc Tranh tea", "Vo Tranh tea".
Every year, the district supports organizations and individuals in the area to participate in promotional activities, introduce products at fairs inside and outside the province; display products at supermarkets, shopping centers and put tea products on e-commerce platforms.
Support programs for packaging, labels, fertilizers, and green rice making machines have promoted the value of Vai sticky rice, creating many valuable products such as green rice, banh chung, wine, banh day, and burnt rice. With pig and chicken farming, the locality is currently focusing on biosafety production, ensuring food hygiene, and gradually forming production and consumption chains.
