Economical hybrid engine
Honda CR-V e:HEV is the first Honda model with a gasoline-electric hybrid engine in Vietnam, bringing new experiences to Vietnamese customers. Unlike conventional hybrid cars that only have 1 electric motor combined with a gasoline engine, Honda CR-V e:HEV has 2 electric motors. This difference gives the car the ability to operate flexibly, switching between pure electric, series hybrid or parallel hybrid.
This is also the reason why the CR-V e:HEV does not have a button to activate the pure electric driving mode (EV Mode) commonly found on Toyota's hybrid lines. At low speeds (under 60 km/h), the car operates entirely on the electric motor, providing a smooth driving feeling like a pure electric car.
When the user steps hard on the gas to accelerate or overtake, the gasoline engine will be activated but will not take over the driving role but will act as a generator to charge the battery before distributing it to the electric motors. This way of working is called series hybrid, somewhat similar to the e-POWER technology on the Nissan Kicks.
At high speeds (70 km/h and above), the vehicle will operate in parallel hybrid mode. At this time, the gasoline engine will play the main role in transmitting kinetic energy to the wheels, while the electric motor will return to the auxiliary position. With such a structure, the Honda CR-V e:HEV in Vietnam brings a more enjoyable driving experience than the regular version, even though it is only equipped with front-wheel drive. The pure gasoline variants of this crossover use a 1.5L turbocharged engine, so it is difficult to avoid lag at the first revolutions.
