Candidates can be admitted to many public schools in Hanoi with an average score of 3.4-4.95 points per subject.
On the afternoon of July 1, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced the admission scores for grade 10 of 117 non-specialized public high schools. The admission score is calculated by multiplying the total score of Math and Literature by a factor of 2, plus the Foreign Language score and priority points. If only the exam score is considered, the maximum score is 50.
Most schools have higher admission scores than last year. This was expected right after the end of the 10th grade entrance exam because the exam questions were familiar and somewhat easier. However, the whole city still has 13 schools with admission scores lower than 25, meaning that candidates who score less than 5 points in a subject can be admitted.
Four schools with 17 points are Bat Bat, Minh Quang, Bac Luong Son and Luu Hoang High Schools, with an average of 3.4 points per subject. Of which, the benchmark scores of Bat Bat and Minh Quang High Schools are the same as last year, Bac Luong Son increased by 2 points and Luu Hoang High School decreased by 0.75 points.
All four schools have fewer students applying than their enrollment quota.
Among the 13 schools with the lowest 10th grade benchmark scores in Hanoi, Van Coc High School has the highest score with 24.75 points, an average of 4.95 points per subject. Other schools with scores above 24 are Hop Thanh, Ba Vi, and Tan Dan High Schools.
As every year, the schools with the lowest admission scores are located in the suburbs, 40-80 km from the center of Hanoi.
Region 8 (Ba Vi, Phuc Tho, Son Tay) has 5 out of 13 schools in this group, including Bat Bat, Minh Quang, Ba Vi, and Van Coc high schools. Region 12 (My Duc, Ung Hoa) also has 5 schools including Luu Hoang, My Duc C, Dai Cuong, Ung Hoa B, and Hop Thanh.
The remaining three schools are Bac Luong Son High School in Thach That district, Nguyen Van Troi High School in Chuong My district, and Tan Dan High School in Thuong Tin district.
For many years, the difference in benchmark scores between public high schools in Hanoi has been determined to be due to three main reasons: the quality of the teaching staff, the poor facilities and learning environment in some districts, and parents' inability to take care of their children's education.
In addition, suburban schools have a smaller population than inner-city schools but more public schools, so the competition rate is also lower.
Last year, the 12 inner-city districts had 3.74 million people, accounting for nearly half of Hanoi’s population. Meanwhile, the total number of public schools in this area was only 37, while the suburbs had 80 schools, more than double.

The entrance exam for grade 10 in Hanoi has more than 104,000 students. They have to take three exams: Math, Literature and Foreign Language. To be considered for admission, candidates must complete all exams, not violate the regulations, and not get a score of zero in any exam.
The city is still divided into 12 enrollment areas. Each student can register up to three options for three public high schools, ranked in order of priority. Of which, the first and second options must be in the enrollment area according to regulations, the third option is not required.
According to the plan, by July 5 at the latest, candidates will receive the 10th grade admission results notice, and complete the admission procedures by July 7. This is a mandatory procedure for all admitted students who wish to enroll. Students can enroll online or in person.
If enrolling in grade 10 online, students log in to the city's primary admission system, select the name of the school they are admitted to and confirm their admission, then print or save the form.
If enrolling directly, students must submit a copy of their 10th grade entrance exam results to the school they are admitted to. After their admission is confirmed, their account will be locked. The school will print out an admission confirmation for them. In case they are admitted to multiple choices and want to make adjustments, students must contact the school to cancel their admission confirmation before enrolling in their new choice.
From July 10, schools that have not yet recruited enough students can consider additional recruitment and call for admission from July 11 to 14.
