On November 29, the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center (Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs) informed about the employment situation and unemployment benefits settlement in November in the city.

Accordingly, by the end of November, Ho Chi Minh City had a total of more than 153,000 people applying for unemployment benefits (an increase of 9.7% over the same period in 2022).

Of which, the number of people who have decided to receive unemployment benefits is 150,300 people, the number of people reporting job searches is more than 612,500 people.

In addition, in October and November 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center collected recruitment information from 58 enterprises with a total recruitment demand of 4,204 workers.

A representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center said that the current job search needs of people are focused on occupations such as manual labor, production workers, sales, delivery workers, etc.

Meanwhile, businesses also have a high demand for unskilled labor. Specifically, the demand for unskilled labor in businesses accounts for the highest proportion with 1,452 positions; followed by the business - management industry and the footwear - garment industry.

At this time, the demand for jobs in industries requiring high qualifications is often lower because most workers will not change jobs at the end of the year because this is the time when businesses will pay welfare benefits for the New Year and Lunar New Year.

From now until the end of the year, the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center will focus on providing job counseling and resolving unemployment benefits for workers to help them maintain their daily lives. At the same time, the Center will also provide career counseling for unemployed workers to help them find new directions.

Previously, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said that the number of people applying for unemployment benefits in the third quarter of 2023 increased sharply compared to the same period last year.

Specifically, the whole country recorded more than 291,300 people applying for unemployment benefits, a decrease of 66,163 people compared to the second quarter of 2023, but an increase of 30,161 people compared to the same period in 2022.

The number of people who decided to receive unemployment benefits in the third quarter was more than 294,400 people.

The majority of workers applying for unemployment benefits are in the group without a degree or certificate. Although this rate has decreased compared to the first and second quarters (67% and 68.9% respectively), it is still high, accounting for 65%.

Meanwhile, in the group with university degrees or higher, the number of workers applying for unemployment benefits increased compared to the second quarter, with 15.4% (the second quarter was 13.1%); the group with certificates and primary vocational certificates accounted for 7%; the group with college and intermediate degrees both accounted for 6.3%.
