(GLO)- On the afternoon of July 28, at Gia Trung Prison (Ministry of Public Security), the Prison coordinated with the Provincial Youth Union and Gia Lai Provincial Police to organize a conference to review 1 year of implementing the joint program "Educating and reforming young prisoners and helping them reintegrate into the community in the period 2022-2025".

The conference was attended by Major General Nguyen Viet Hung - Deputy Director of Department C10 (Ministry of Public Security). The conference was chaired by Colonel Dao Ngoc Sy - Warden of Gia Trung Prison, Mr. Do Duc Thanh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Chairman of the Provincial Youth Union, Lieutenant Colonel Mai Xuan Dien - Head of PC10 (Gia Lai Provincial Police).

This program has been implemented since May 2022 and the units have carried out many effective activities. Over the past year, the units have coordinated to organize 80 propaganda and education sessions, counseling on crime prevention, law violations, social evils... for more than 2,000 prisoners. Of which, more than 1,100 prisoners are young people.

In addition, Gia Trung Prison has organized worker education classes according to the framework program of civic education, special amnesty, conditional early release, organized cultural education, and literacy for prisoners in general and juvenile prisoners in particular. Specifically, 52 classes have been organized for more than 1,000 juvenile prisoners who have just arrived at the prison to serve their sentences; 35 classes for more than 1,100 prisoners serving prison sentences at 5 sub-camps; and 13 classes for 700 juvenile prisoners who are about to complete their prison sentences.

During the 1-year implementation of the program, 471 juvenile inmates who had completed their prison sentences and had their household registration in Gia Lai sent their lists to the Associations and the “Lighting Up Faith” Clubs in the localities for monitoring and assistance. The Associations at all levels continued to establish and maintain the activities of 220 models and solutions, helping and supporting the reformation of more than 200 backward youths and youths who had just completed their prison sentences and returned to their localities.

The Vietnam Youth Union of the province organized many gift-giving and medical examination sessions with 100 gifts, 10,000 cotton trees for Gia Trung Prison and medical examination for 200 prisoners.

In particular, the units organize many career guidance and vocational training activities for young prisoners and create jobs, helping them reintegrate into the community. In addition to exchange and connection activities between prisoners and businesses in the area, Gia Trung Prison and the Provincial Police Detention Center regularly open career guidance and vocational training classes for prisoners right from when they first come to serve their sentences. The units also invite the Young Entrepreneurs Association and leaders of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to advise and discuss with prisoners about employment trends and recruitment addresses suitable for their production and business sectors.

Gia Trung Prison has established a “Community Reintegration Fund” to help prisoners in difficult circumstances, support vocational training, transfer of skills, search and introduce jobs when those who have made mistakes return to become useful citizens to society. In 1 year of implementing the program, more than 400 million VND has been spent in the fund and currently more than 1.5 billion VND remains.

In conjunction with the Conference, the units organized the program “Lighting up the dream of rehabilitation” with the participation of 100 prisoners representing juvenile prisoners serving their sentences at Gia Trung Prison. At the program, the Organizing Committee awarded 50 gifts to 50 prisoners who complied with the prison regulations and listened to the sharing of Dr. Huynh Anh Binh - speaker, psychologist, Director of Career Guidance of Ho Chi Minh City.

Along with that, 4 units of the Provincial Police Youth Union, the Provincial Vietnam Youth Union, the T20 Detention Camp (Provincial Police) and Gia Trung Detention Camp organized a four-team men's football exchange program. The Youth Union football team excellently won the championship after defeating the Gia Trung Detention Camp players with a score of 4-2 in the final match. In the third place match, the Provincial Vietnam Youth Union defeated the T20 Detention Camp with a score of 4-0. The organizing committee also awarded individual prizes to the best player, top scorer and best goalkeeper.
