The horrific violence shows no signs of stopping.

The conflict between the two most powerful factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, a major drug gang, dates back to July, when the legendary leader of one of those groups, Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, was arrested in the United States.
Zambada, 74, alleges that a senior member of Los Chapitos, another faction within the cartel, kidnapped him and forced him to fly to the United States against his will.
Since violence erupted on September 9, gunfire has disrupted daily life in the capital Culiacan, where schools have been closed for days, while restaurants and shops have closed early.
Sinaloa state Governor Rubén Rocha Moya said Friday that more than 40 people have been arrested in recent days, and more than 5,000 food packages have been distributed across Sinaloa.
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Thursday that the United States was partly responsible for the unrest because it “carried out this operation,” referring to previous surrender negotiations between U.S. officials and Joaquin Guzman Lopez, the man who kidnapped Zambada.
US officials have confirmed that they held talks with Guzman, but US Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar said last month that US officials were surprised to find El Mayo on US soil.
