The Dien Bien Phu National Traffic Safety Marathon 2024 is expected to take place on April 14, 2024, attracting about 1,000 - 1,300 athletes to participate in 5 distances including 5km, 10km, 21km, 42km and 70km.
According to the schedule, athletes will receive their race-kit and BIB on April 13. On the competition day, April 14, the 70km distance starts at 4am, the 42km distance starts at 6am, the 21km distance starts at 7:30am and the remaining two distances start at 10am. The running track will close at 7pm on the same day.
More than 1,000 athletes participate in the 2024 national traffic safety marathon.
This year's race will pass through historical bases such as Him Lam, Hong Cum, A1 hill, De Castries tunnel... which mark the heroic footsteps of the Vietnam People's Army.
The organizers hope that the tournament will be a boost for the local economy, an opportunity to promote Northwest tourism, the image of the land and people of the Northwest to domestic and international friends. In addition, the organizers will also spend a portion of the money from BIB sales to give charity gifts to families of traffic accident victims in the locality.
This year's award is jointly organized by the People's Committee of Dien Bien province, the National Traffic Safety Committee and the Giao thong Newspaper. This event is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024); the 115th anniversary of Dien Bien province's establishment (June 28, 1909 - June 28, 2024) and the National Tourism Year - Dien Bien Phu 2024, Traffic Safety Year 2024.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hiep - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien province said that this year's race was organized on a large scale and closely, bringing many meanings to Dien Bien province in particular. From now until the tournament takes place, the organizing committee will complete the preparation stage, bringing the best experiences to athletes and tourists.
Notably, within the framework of the race, there will be a group of selected athletes running a relay distance of 859km starting from Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province (Vung Chua Dao Yen, the resting place of General Vo Nguyen Giap) carrying the flag "Determined to fight - Determined to win" and together with the organizing committee, presenting it to the management unit of the place of worship of General Vo Nguyen Giap in Muong Phang commune, Dien Bien Phu city, Dien Bien province.
