Vietnam Journalists Association requests clarification on threats and intimidation of Tien Phong newspaper reporters

Accordingly, the Vietnam Journalists Association received Official Dispatch No. 276/CV-BTP-2023 dated May 25, 2023 from the Tien Phong Newspaper Journalists Association regarding the incident in which a reporter was threatened while working.

Specifically, from late April to mid-May 2023, journalist Nguyen Van Tuan (pen name Tuan Nguyen), a member of the Vietnam Journalists Association, in charge of the Tien Phong Newspaper Representative Office in the Central Highlands region, went to deploy a series of articles related to the illegal trading of agricultural land in Ea Ktur commune, Cu Kuin district, Dak Lak. He was threatened by a number of unidentified individuals who called him, threatening the lives of the reporter and his family.

The Vietnam Journalists Association assessed that the threatening behavior of these subjects has seriously affected the spirit and life of reporters, creating a sense of insecurity for reporters of press agencies working in the area.

To protect the legal right to practice of its members, the Vietnam Journalists Association requests that the relevant agencies and functional units urgently take measures to protect the lives and health of Tien Phong newspaper reporters. At the same time, investigate and appropriately handle the above subjects according to the provisions of law.
