On April 23, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized the ASEAN Future Forum 2024 with the theme "Building a fast-growing, sustainable, people-centered ASEAN Community".
The Forum was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; Mr. Sonexay Siphandone, Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic - ASEAN Chair 2024; Mr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary General of ASEAN; Foreign Ministers of Indonesia and Brunei; ambassadors and representatives of ASEAN governments; leading regional and international scholars; representatives of a number of leading Vietnamese and regional enterprises.
The forum is organized in person and online to localities across the country.
Attending the forum at Ninh Binh province were comrade Nguyen Cao Son, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of a number of provincial departments and branches.
In his opening speech, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that after nearly three decades of joining ASEAN, Vietnam has always considered ASEAN one of the top priorities in its foreign, defense, security and economic policies. Vietnam always strives for a united and strong ASEAN with an increasingly high role and position in the region and the world.
ASEAN is moving towards the goals of 2045 with the aspiration of a dynamic, cohesive and self-reliant community. To realize the ASEAN Vision 2045, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed strengthening solidarity, cooperation and unity in diversity, upholding ASEAN's spirit of independence, self-reliance and strategic autonomy, promoting ASEAN's central role, while respecting differences, ensuring harmony of interests, and firmly upholding ASEAN's stance and principles on security and development issues in the region and the world. Strengthening strategic trust within ASEAN and in relations with partners, contributing to preventing conflicts, maintaining a peaceful, secure, stable and prosperous environment in the region and the world.
In addition, it is necessary to strengthen digital transformation, green development, circular economy, digital economy, promote innovation, start-ups, and create new and sustainable growth drivers for ASEAN in the coming time. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen the mobilization of all social resources to promote socio-economic development, especially public-private cooperation, create strategic breakthroughs in institutions, human resources, infrastructure, and national governance, helping ASEAN develop rapidly and sustainably.
"We believe that ASEAN has been making increasingly proactive and positive contributions with the international community in shaping the future of the world. Tomorrow begins today. Vietnam will continue to make greater efforts with member countries, partners and international friends, especially ASEAN countries, to join hands to continue writing success stories, opening up a future of unity in diversity, actively contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world, taking people as the center and subject of development, leaving no one behind," Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized.
After the opening session, two plenary discussions took place with the themes: "ASEAN develops rapidly for a sustainable future"; "Ensuring comprehensive security for the ASEAN Community, taking people as the center".
The forum focused on discussing future directions to promote sustainable, inclusive and resilient development of the ASEAN community. At the same time, it discussed solutions to ensure harmony between development and environmental protection, response to climate change, and ensuring social security; businesses also shared many business ideas, connected networks to enhance investment and business cooperation...
The forum aims to connect the ASEAN Community with the sustainable development goals by 2030, creating a framework for regional and non-regional stakeholders to participate in providing ideas and initiatives for the process of building the ASEAN vision to 2045 and implementing the vision in the coming time.
The ASEAN Future Forum 2024 with the theme "Building a fast-growing, sustainable, people-centered ASEAN Community" is an important initiative proposed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the 43rd ASEAN Summit in September 2023.
Through dialogue, Vietnam wishes to contribute with ASEAN member countries as well as ASEAN partners and friends, and ASEAN people in promoting and shaping the development path for ASEAN's future.
