KOREA TIMES. South Korea will strengthen quarantine measures on beef imported from the United States, after the United States reported a case of bovine encephalopathy (mad cow disease).
KYODO. China summoned Japanese Ambassador to China Hideo Tarumi to protest G7 statements on Taiwan and Beijing-related issues raised at the Hiroshima Summit.
YOMIURI. The approval rating for Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio's cabinet exceeded 50% for the first time in eight months, while the disapproval rating stood at 33%, down from 37% in a survey five weeks ago.
THE STAR. The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2023 from May 23-27 is expected to yield contracts worth a total of RM18 billion ( US$4 billion ), according to Malaysian Defense Minister Mohamad Hasan.

AP. After winning the election on May 21, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that he would not form a coalition government, hoping that the second round of voting could take place on June 25.

EGYPT TODAY. The Egyptian government has called on its citizens to gather at Dongola airport on May 23 for evacuation by air, as violence continues in Sudan.
NEWS24. A cholera outbreak in Gauteng province - home to the administrative capital Pretoria and South Africa's largest city Johannesburg - has left 10 people dead, South African authorities have urged people to be "more cautious".
Xinhua News Agency. The Armed Forces of Mali (FAMa) killed 167 terrorists in operations from April 8 to May 20, but the Malian army lost nine soldiers and seven vehicles destroyed or lost.
AFRICA NEWS. Thirteen people have been killed in attacks by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels on several villages in Irumu territory, Democratic Republic of Congo.

REUTERS. The United States and Papua New Guinea have signed a new defense cooperation agreement that will allow US forces access to the island nation's ports and airports.
