On the morning of December 12, the Provincial Department of Population and Family Planning held a conference to respond to the National Action Month on Population and celebrate Vietnam Population Day (December 26).
Attending the conference were leaders of the Department of Health; Provincial Center for Disease Control; leaders of Medical Centers of districts and cities.
At the conference, delegates reviewed the 62nd anniversary of Vietnam Population Day. Accordingly, one of the most outstanding achievements of population work is that over the past 60 years, Vietnam has successfully controlled the rapid population growth rate, achieving and maintaining the replacement fertility rate for nearly two decades.
Our country's population size is stable. Since 2007, our country has entered the golden population period. Population quality has gradually improved in many aspects. Average life expectancy has increased rapidly. Malnutrition and maternal and child mortality have decreased sharply.
Along with the whole country, the population work of Ninh Binh province in recent years has always received attention from Party committees and authorities at all levels, and has seriously deployed and implemented documents, directives and resolutions of the Central and local levels.
Communication work has been enhanced and coordinated smoothly by departments, branches and organizations; propaganda methods have been innovated to each target group, and models and projects have been synchronously deployed to improve population quality.
Population and development work has achieved many important achievements: The average population reached 1,029,241 people; the average life expectancy in 2022 was 74.3 years old (nationwide 73.8 years old); the targets for implementation in 2023, the sex ratio at birth is estimated at 114.3 boys/100 girls, the prenatal screening rate is estimated at 112.6%, the newborn screening rate is estimated at 106.7%, the rate of pre-marital health consultation and examination increased to 100% of the assigned plan, the rate of elderly people receiving periodic health examinations once a year increased to 170.2%...
In 2024, Ninh Binh province strives to complete the following population work targets: natural population growth rate of 0.95%; birth rate decreased by 0.1% compared to 2023; birth rate of third child or more decreased by 5% compared to 2023; sex ratio at birth of 111 boys/100 girls; rate of pregnant mothers screened before birth 73%; rate of newborns screened at birth 82%; rate of male and female couples receiving counseling and health check-ups before marriage 60%; increase the rate of elderly people receiving periodic health check-ups at least once a year by 10% compared to 2023; average life expectancy over 74.4 years old; rate of couples applying modern contraceptive methods reaching 66%...
The provincial Department of Population and Family Planning has promoted activities in response to the theme of Vietnam Population Day 2023, "Participating in pre-marital health consultation and examination for family happiness, for the future of the country", thereby helping to detect and treat early some diseases that affect sexual issues, pregnancy, and childbirth later; prevent some congenital malformations for children; help women prepare their health for safe pregnancy and childbirth, contributing to ensuring sustainable marriages and improving the quality of the race.
Responding to activities on the occasion of the National Action Month on Population and Vietnam Population Day is an opportunity to strengthen the commitment of Party committees and authorities at all levels; strengthen the coordination of departments, branches, and organizations and mobilize people to participate in better implementing the consistent policies of the Party and State on population and development work with practical and effective actions, contributing to soon stabilizing the birth rate, improving the quality of the population, building high-quality human resources, meeting the cause of industrialization and modernization.
