G7 Summit closes with theme Towards a world of peace, stability and prosperity

At 2:00 p.m. on May 21 (Japan time), the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan closed after the final discussion session with the theme Towards a World of Peace, Stability and Prosperity.

Speaking at the closing press conference of the summit on the afternoon of May 21, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida emphasized that the G7 summit is a starting point for efforts towards building a world without nuclear weapons in the future, emphasizing the importance of strengthening a rules-based international order and promoting cooperation with countries in the Southern Hemisphere to jointly solve global issues. Prime Minister Kishida affirmed that as the current G7 Chair in 2023, Japan will lead the G7's efforts to achieve the goals set at the Hiroshima Summit.

Previously, the joint statement of the G7 leaders released on May 20 mentioned notable contents such as efforts to move towards a world without nuclear weapons; opposing the use of force to change the status quo; calling on China to use its influence to help end the conflict in Ukraine; affirming its readiness to build a stable and constructive relationship with China; calling on China to peacefully resolve the Taiwan Strait issue. The G7 leaders pledged to launch a mechanism to strengthen the prevention of economic coercion; emphasized the importance of cooperation with developing and emerging countries to jointly deal with global issues. The joint statement stated that the G7 countries committed to implementing efforts to maintain financial stability and promote world economic growth; and to begin discussions on common regulations for the field of artificial intelligence (AI) by the end of the year; Working together to accelerate the transition to clean energy and promote human rights and gender equality globally.

During the three-day summit, G7 leaders held 10 thematic sessions and three expanded G7 meetings with leaders of eight invited countries, including Vietnam, Australia, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Brazil, Cook Islands and Comoros. In addition, on the sidelines of the G7 summit, there were a series of high-level bilateral and multilateral talks, including the Quad summit and the US-Japan-South Korea trilateral summit.
