Here are some key agreements from the joint statement:
Tripartite cooperation
The countries will strive to hold trilateral summits and ministerial-level meetings on a regular basis, while making efforts to ensure that people in the three countries "can enjoy real benefits stemming from this cooperation." Japan will host the next summit.
People-to-people exchange
The three countries aim to increase people-to-people exchanges, aiming to involve 40 million people by 2030 through cultural, tourism and educational exchanges.
Climate change
All three recognise the need to work together to transition to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and carbon neutrality. They are committed to taking decisive action and supporting efforts to achieve the Paris Agreement temperature target.
Conserve
South Korea, China and Japan have agreed to cooperate to reduce dust and sandstorms in East Asia. The three countries will also promote marine conservation and work to finalize a legally binding international instrument on plastic pollution, as well as curb illegal fishing.
Economic and trade cooperation
The countries agreed to support discussions to accelerate negotiations on a trilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA). They reaffirmed their support for an open, rules-based multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization (WTO) at its core.
"We will continue to work to ensure a global level playing field to promote a free, open, fair, non-discriminatory, transparent, inclusive and predictable trade and investment environment," the three countries said in a statement, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining open markets and promoting supply chain cooperation.
Health and aging
The countries adopted a joint declaration on preventing a future aging crisis. They also agreed to work together to address the challenges of low birth rates and aging societies through exchanges between governments and experts.
Regional and international peace
The three countries reaffirmed their common interests and responsibilities in maintaining peace, stability and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia. They reiterated their stance on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
