CAEXPO 2023 will be held in Nanning, Guangxi, China, from September 16-19.

The theme of CAEXPO 2023 is “Building a Common Home, a Community with a Shared Destiny for the Future – Promoting the Belt and Road Initiative for High-Quality Development and Building an Economic Growth Center”. This year’s edition marks the 20th anniversary of China and ASEAN countries successfully co-hosting the CAEXPO.

Mr. Vu Ba Phu - Director of the Trade Promotion Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized that over the past 20 years, CAEXPO has become a large multilateral economic and trade cooperation platform between ASEAN and China, gathering a large number of Chinese and ASEAN businessmen and investors, creating extremely favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to directly learn about market trends, exchange, promote business and promote cooperation in many fields with Chinese and ASEAN enterprises.

On average, each fair, Vietnamese enterprises have the opportunity to approach about 50,000 Chinese and ASEAN businessmen. Statistics from both China and Vietnam show that, from only reaching a few million USD in the value of contracts and transaction agreements in the first years of participating in CAEXPO, in recent years, the total value of trade and investment transactions of Vietnamese enterprises at the fair has reached around 50 million USD. The Vietnamese pavilion at CAEXPO fairs has always attracted a large number of Vietnamese enterprises to register to participate.

The CAEXPO Fair is also identified as one of four important activities decided by the Chinese Government to be held annually (along with the Beihai Forum, the Tianjin Davos Forum and the Shanghai International Import Expo), with the participation of members of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China.

In 2019-2022, despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam still maintained its participation in the fair with the largest scale and quality among ASEAN countries. Vietnam organized for large Vietnamese enterprises with agents in China to participate and display products at the fair. In addition, due to the inability to attend the fair directly, Vietnamese enterprises organized remote exhibition booths to introduce and display products and goods and carry out trade connection activities through information technology application platforms.

According to Mr. Vu Ba Phu, in 2023, Vietnam will continue to act as the gateway to the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area, a bridge between the ASEAN Economic Community and China. Annual participation in the CAEXPO Fair with its increasingly improved scale and quality will be an important trade, investment and tourism promotion event to help strengthen ties with countries in the region, maximize the benefits brought by the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area, and at the same time increase the export of Vietnamese goods and services to China and ASEAN countries.

After 3 years of not being held due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's fair will be a major gathering point for ASEAN and Chinese businesses, as well as other international businesses. The fair will bring confidence to businesses in restoring and developing trade and investment cooperation with more diverse and practical content, " said the Director of the Trade Promotion Agency.

The Vietnamese trade pavilion at the 20th China-ASEAN Expo has the participation of 120 enterprises with 200 booths, totaling about 4,000 m2. Vietnam continues to be the country with the second largest booth at the Fair, after the host country China. Participating enterprises are expected to mainly be in the fields of agricultural products, processed food, footwear, household appliances and garments, wooden furniture, handicrafts and wood products.

This year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has coordinated with Son La province in developing a plan to design and set up booths, build and organize cultural and artistic activities at the national booth with the theme "Beautiful City" to promote the trade, investment, cultural and tourism potential of the beauty of the Northwest mountainous region of Vietnam, Son La province in particular and Vietnam in general. The national booth has an area of 180 m2.

In addition to the booths, continuing the success of previous years, the Trade Promotion Agency coordinated with the CAEXPO Fair Secretariat and related units to organize the "General Trade Conference on Trading Goods between Vietnamese and Chinese Enterprises". The conference is expected to be held on September 18 at the Nanning International Exhibition and Convention Center with the participation of over 200 delegates representing enterprises of the two countries, connecting trade in 6 fields: Construction materials and interior decoration; food processing and packaging technology; agricultural techniques, agricultural machinery, construction machinery; electrical equipment, energy and environmental technology; electronics and household appliances; textile products and consumer goods.

CAEXPO is an annual fair held since 2004, initiated by China and received positive response from ASEAN member countries. Over the past 20 years, the Fair has become a large multilateral economic and trade cooperation platform between ASEAN and China, gathering a large number of businesses and investors. It is estimated that on average, each fair, Vietnamese enterprises have the opportunity to approach about 50,000 Chinese and other ASEAN businessmen.
