Local imprint in products
In 2024, Hoi An has 7 products recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards. Of these, 5 new products are participating in the OCOP program, including: Long Hoa mushroom rolls, Granola breakfast cereal, 12 zodiac products, Bodhi leaf bowls and Kim Bong sedge bags. Two products that were re-evaluated are Cu Lao Cham dried squid and Uyen Khang termite mushrooms.
Among the newly recognized products for the first time, Kim Bong sedge bags are products that use local materials and are also a typical product of the sedge mat craft of Cam Kim commune.
According to Ms. Pham Thi Cong - owner of Kim Bong sedge handicraft production and trading establishment, this is not only an environmentally friendly fashion product but also a meaningful gift of traditional cultural value.
Long Hoa mushroom patties (Cam Nam ward) are vegan, nutritious, and processed products. The ingredients of the mushroom patties are natural agricultural products purchased locally, demonstrating the strength of the local raw material area, with the potential to develop into a typical commodity product processed from agricultural products in the province.
Meanwhile, the 12 Zodiac products (Thanh Ha ward) are a blend of traditional and modern elements expressed through the sophistication of traditional ceramic products in Thanh Ha craft village.
The product is considered to have the potential to become a typical tourist gift of Hoi An City because it is not simply a decorative ceramic product but also a meaningful gift of fortune and traditional cultural values.
With 2 re-recognized products, Uyen Khang black termite mushrooms (Cam Nam ward) can be processed into many different dishes for family meals such as stir-fried mushrooms, grilled mushrooms, mushroom and bone soup, mushroom hotpot... with high nutritional content.
This is also a relatively new product in the province, including in the Central region, so the consumption market is quite open. Cu Lao Cham dried squid has been recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards since 2021.
Since then, at many times, the product has not been in sufficient supply to the market, especially for tourists coming to Cu Lao Cham and restaurants on the island because of its freshness and unique flavor.
Support in many forms
In April 2024, Hoi An City People's Committee coordinated with the Quang Nam Province Creative Startup Steering Committee to organize training on developing creative startup projects and media and commercial arts.
Participating in the training were businesses and production establishments with startup ideas and projects; OCOP product owners, typical rural industrial products in the city.
The training content focuses on product development solutions, improving competitiveness, researching customer needs, innovative thinking; the role of communication and marketing in startups, communication and marketing skills on social networking platforms.
“I found this training course very useful because it helped me identify my limitations as well as gain more knowledge and good solutions to better bring my products to customers,” shared Ms. Pham Thi Minh Thuy, representative of Uyen Khang Termite Mushroom Production Facility (Cam Nam Ward).
Also this year, Hoi An City continues to actively support entities in promoting OCOP product trade. In June 2024, Hoi An City organized the "2nd Green Consumption - Startup Fair" at Kim Bong Craft Village Center (Cam Kim Commune) with many OCOP products displayed and introduced.
The local government also organizes the introduction and display of OCOP products at festival events inside and outside the city such as Cam Ha Kumquat Festival, Kim Bong Craft Village Festival, Quang Nam Product Festival in Da Nang; fairs held in Thang Binh, Duy Xuyen, Nong Son districts; connecting the Cao Lanh City (Dong Thap) trade promotion delegation with the Xanh Xanh clean food store, Hoi An OCOP House specialty store to promote the promotion and consumption of products...
Recently, the Hoi An OCOP Center at 72 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street (Hoi An Ancient Town) with the active support of the city has officially opened and come into operation.
Thereby, contributing to introducing and connecting OCOP products of Hoi An, Quang Nam in particular and the whole country in general, promoting the OCOP product brand to consumers, especially tourists.
“In recent times, the city has supported the establishment of points for introducing, promoting and selling OCOP products and typical rural industrial products. In addition to the Hoi An OCOP Center, the city will maintain the organization of Hoi An markets as well as gradually establish points for introducing and selling OCOP products at Hoi An market and other locations in suitable forms,” said Mr. Nguyen The Hung, Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People’s Committee.
