At 3:00 a.m. on October 17, at Phu Cat airport (Binh Dinh), 6 K48 pilot students prepared for their graduation flight practice, which included attacking ground targets.
At the equipment area, the technical team urgently and comprehensively inspected the Yak-130 combat training aircraft of Regiment 940, Air Force Officer School, to ensure the quality and quantity of aircraft participating in the mission.
After the successful meteorological reconnaissance flight, the conference on flight mission deployment began. Sergeant Dinh Thanh Trung - pilot student of Squadron 1 was ready for the graduation practice flight with the content "Attack on ground targets".
Receiving the aircraft from the technical team and completing the equipment inspection, Trung confidently went to the front cockpit, while Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tat Thang - Deputy Commander of the Military Training Regiment in the back cabin checked the students.
Mr. Trung confidently controlled the equipment to the waiting area and took off to carry out the mission. When taking off, he reached a stable altitude and entered the working area. He set up the shooting circle, kept the data according to the flight data; aimed and dived to attack the target. As a result, the aiming mark coincided with the target's center; the altitude and firing speed were exactly according to the regulations.
Then, Mr. Trung escaped to an area with an altitude higher than the safe altitude, successfully completed his graduation practice flight and landed.
Right after Mr. Trung, students Trinh Quoc Bao, Phan Xuan An, Nguyen Thanh Ha, Cu Linh Hoat and Nguyen Thanh Tung took turns performing their graduation practical flights.
In addition to the "Ground Target Attack" flight, the students also performed the "Airborne Interception" flight. In this flight, the interceptor aircraft must take off 3 minutes after the target aircraft. The students control the equipment to pursue the target, maintain the correct flight data, and maneuver under the guidance of the navigators.
When entering the target capture area, the guide officer gives the direction and distance of the target aircraft for the trainee to observe and search with their eyes.
This content requires students to capture the target at a minimum distance of 6km, take up an attack position, aim and shoot, and escape to land safely...
During the graduation practical flight, the examiners strictly followed the regulations; honestly, objectively, and accurately evaluated the flight quality of the students. The 6 students strictly followed the regulations and rules; remained calm and confident, performed the practical flight safely, and achieved high results.
Colonel Nguyen Van Son - Commander of Regiment 940 affirmed: "The practical flight graduation exam is an important task, of great significance to the students. This is a milestone marking the maturity in the career of military pilots.
Through the graduation flight practice, the unit can evaluate the actual technical level of piloting and navigation; combat application flight ability; learning and training results of each specific student, as a basis for graduation consideration, and propose to superiors to confer officer ranks on students.
It is known that this is the first time Regiment 940 has organized an exam and graduation exam for pilot students, so the unit has prepared very meticulously, thoughtfully, closely, and seriously in all aspects for the mission.
Agencies and squadrons have closely followed and grasped the students' thoughts and psychology; built students with will, determination, confidence, and calmness in flight practice.
At the same time, do a good job of preparing for the flight, reviewing, practicing, coordinating, and performing proficiently the methods of performing the flight content; methods of correcting errors; strengthening the piloting techniques for students; combating all subjective and simplistic thoughts among students; strictly maintaining the study, living, and resting routines, ensuring good health for performing tasks...
After the graduation exam, the Regiment will complete the records, comments and evaluations of the students to ensure objectivity, honesty, accuracy, and reflect the technical level of driving and navigation of each individual to hand over the students to the school to receive new tasks.
