Nguyen Xuan Hoang said the motivation for Hoang to focus on researching "a device to warn students of falling asleep in cars": "After two recent incidents involving children being forgotten in cars, with the consent of the instructor, the teacher and student had the idea to carry out research and invent a special device placed in cars to ensure the safety of children and students."
Regarding the operating mechanism of this device, Xuan Hoang analyzed: “When the vehicle stops running, after about 2 minutes, if there is still someone in the vehicle, the sensor will transmit a signal that makes the bell ring for 20 seconds. When the vehicle starts running again, the sensor will detect the engine's operation and turn off the bell.”
Teacher Duong Trung Hieu was extremely happy with the success of the two teachers and students: “From the beginning of the idea to the completion of this sensor device was two weeks (from May 28 to June 18, 2024). The two of us worked together continuously, researching the design, forming and assembling the device structure. Xuan Hoang is a smart and passionate student.”
Within just 2 weeks of research and testing, the teacher and student successfully created this useful sensor device. Xuan Hoang said that this device has the following main parts: a bell box with integrated circuits with relays to control the current running from the sensors to the bell box; infrared sensors to detect whether there is someone in the car or not when the car stops and vibration sensors to detect whether the car is moving or not.

According to teacher Duong Trung Hieu, this device has the advantage of being compact, simple to install, not bulky, easy to use direct power in the car, cheap and quite simple to manufacture.
Xuan Hoang added: “The most difficult step in researching and creating this product is designing the circuit and testing the sensors in the device. Each type of car will have different sizes. Therefore, when calculating the thickness and size of the wire connecting to the sensor, the teacher and student had difficulty choosing the right wire for each type of car. In particular, when starting to install the sensor in the car, it takes a lot of time and precision to adjust the bell so that it can ring or stop accurately according to the vibration sensor. We can also install a wireless alarm system with the school so that those in charge can coordinate with the driver.”
The two teachers and students said they will continue to research and experiment to develop the topic, design more compact equipment, lower costs and higher durability, with the hope that the equipment will be usefully applied in life at schools and in cars transporting children and students...
