Help the fire department
Recently, fires, especially apartment fires, have caused heavy damage to people and property. "Apartment fire" has become the most searched keyword on the topic of fire prevention and fighting (PCCC).

According to statistics, from February 2022 to October 2023, there were more than 1,000 fires nationwide. In January 2024 alone, there were 376 fires nationwide, many people died, and damage was more than 73 billion VND.
Therefore, two students Lam Bao Tran (student of class 11A1) and Lam Hung Vi (student of class 11A8, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School for the Gifted, Soc Trang province) researched and created a "Warning and detection system for people trapped in apartment building fires".
"Through testing, we found that the project was initially successful and entered it into the provincial science and technology innovation competition, winning second prize (there was no first prize)," Lam Bao Tran excitedly shared.
Explaining the group's topic, Lam Hung Vi said: "The device created by the group has functions such as warning of fires through sensor signal recognition and navigation notifications for people to clearly understand the situation.
The machine can detect survivors and trapped victims within each room through human recognition sensors, high temperature sensors and emergency buttons within each apartment.
According to Vi, the warning system is implemented in multi-storey, multi-room apartment buildings. Each room will be equipped with a sensor (mounted on the ceiling or wall, inside and outside the house) that has a wifi connection to another device in the apartment management department or connected to the smartphone of the user of the device.
When a fire breaks out, if someone is in the house, this device will identify whether the victim is inside the room or outside and the device will automatically light up. At the same time, it will transmit information about the victim, room number, floor... to the apartment management department, fire fighting force, and rescue team.
From there, people will proceed to rescue the victim from the danger zone.
The device is aesthetically pleasing and easy to use.
In other cases, when an accident occurs, if the victim is trapped inside a house with an emergency call device, the victim only needs to press the call button and the rescue team will immediately detect the location where the victim is trapped.
At the same time, the device also has a speaker system so that rescuers can encourage and guide victims through the initial steps to escape danger, waiting for rescuers to arrive to assist.
The system still works when wifi is lost
Lam Bao Tran added: "The system ensures the necessary factors such as stability and reliability; the price is only about 2 million VND, suitable for all families living in apartments to easily equip. Besides, the device is highly aesthetic and easy to use."
The system has a backup power source to provide wifi network, ensuring stable operation.
Commenting on the feasibility of the project, Lieutenant Colonel Bui Van Hong, Deputy Head of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department - Soc Trang Provincial Police, said: "Through testing, the students' fire alarm system identified trapped victims, helping to accurately determine the location of victims trapped in the fire.
At the same time, the system helps to accurately and quickly detect areas where fires and explosions occur so that building managers can notify people in the incident areas and neighboring areas.
The system uses a convenient management app for managers, who do not need to be constantly on location but can grasp the situation anywhere if there is a fire or explosion in the building.
The system uses wifi, however, to prevent power outages in case of fire or explosion, the students created a device that uses a backup power source to provide wifi to ensure the system operates stably.
We rate this model as very good and innovative in programming, creating a fire alarm system to find people and identify victims when a fire or explosion occurs.
Authorities highly appreciate this system.
This is also a very practical model, helping the Fire Prevention and Rescue Force when arriving at the scene to quickly and accurately determine where the victims are trapped so they can approach as soon as possible, thereby bringing the victims out safely."
The system's goal is to have a stable connection to the database (where data is stored on the website) via the internet from a 4G wifi transmitter; a stable speaker and warning light system; high performance in transmitting notifications, with the maximum recorded delay being 6 seconds.
The display panel displays the collected information intuitively and is easy to control. The hardware is optimized for mass production; the web-based control panel is convenient to use and easily accessible remotely by users.
