On the evening of January 10, a representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday schedule for cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers in Hanoi city is built according to the time frame approved by the Prime Minister.
Based on the announcement of the City People's Committee on this content, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has researched and carefully considered to propose the most suitable plan with the goal of ensuring safety for students and creating convenience and peace of mind for parents.
According to the announced Tet holiday schedule, students will have 8 days off, 1 day more than teachers. This is a plan that has been carefully considered by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training and taken into account many situations to ensure the highest safety for students.
"If students have a longer break, many families, especially those with children of preschool and elementary school age, will have a hard time not having someone to look after their children because their parents work on the same schedule," the Department representative explained.
Previously, the Hanoi People's Committee approved the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday schedule for teachers and students at preschool, primary, secondary and high school levels.
Officials and civil servants of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training and the Departments of Education and Training of districts, towns and cities will have 7 days off for Lunar New Year, from February 8 to February 14 (ie from December 29, Quy Mao year to January 5, Giap Thin year).
The Lunar New Year holiday for students, staff and teachers of schools is 8 days, from February 7 to February 14 (ie from December 28, year of the Cat to January 5, year of the Dragon).
Compared to 30 localities that have announced the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday schedule, Hanoi will give students the fewest days off - 8 days. Most localities will give students 10 - 14 days off (from February 5 - 18).
Previously, many parents questioned why Hanoi gave students too few days off for Tet, leaving them with little time to rest, play, or visit relatives with their families.
Parent Tran Thi Thu Hong (38 years old, Dong Da district) said that according to the school holiday schedule, after the Lunar New Year 2024, students will go to school on Thursday, and those who study until Friday will have the weekend off. This holiday schedule is somewhat unreasonable, "the children only go to school for two days and then have the weekend off, it's too tiring to travel."
"If we let students have a break until the end of the weekend - until February 18 like other localities - it would be more suitable," said Ms. Hong. In big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, there are quite a lot of students from other places coming to live and study, and every holiday is also an opportunity for parents to let their children go back to their hometown to visit grandparents and relatives.
Not to mention, the Lunar New Year is the occasion when many festivals take place. Parents also take advantage of this opportunity to take their children out, visit and learn about traditional customs to foster patriotism and relieve stress in studying. Therefore, according to Ms. Hong, the Lunar New Year holiday should be longer instead of too short, not having time to feel the arrival of Tet before having to go back to school.
