Seniors say no to cell phones in hopes of "changing their lives"

Preparing for an important exam, students at Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2 all say no to cell phones, taking advantage of every hour to study for the exam. This school has more than 90% of students who are ethnic minorities from especially difficult mountainous districts of Nghe An province.

In previous admissions, this school had many students who passed with high scores and were admitted to top majors of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi Medical University, People's Security Academy, People's Police Academy...

Ms. Dau Thi Quynh Mai, Vice Principal of Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2, said: "Last year, 230 students of the school passed the university entrance exam. In particular, 7 students were honored with high scores in the province. For many years, the school's average university entrance exam score has ranked 2nd in Nghe An province, just behind Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School.

This result also partly shows that ethnic minority students are not weak in their studies, but that the teaching method is important. This shows that the professional work and training methods that the school is implementing are correct."

According to Ms. Mai, the children from disadvantaged areas do not have the same learning conditions as those from other places. Therefore, from the moment they arrive at school, teachers support them in even the smallest things.

What is special is that students here say no to phones. If they need to contact their families, they do so through the phone in the school cafeteria. The hours for activities and studying are also clearly regulated. This year, the whole school has 230 students taking the exam.

This is also the final time before the important exam. At night, the classrooms at Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2 are still lit.

In the classrooms, teachers take advantage of their time to equip their students with additional knowledge. Teachers come to class in the evenings on a completely voluntary basis. Students can discuss any questions directly with the teachers.

"The students' learning awareness is very good. We really appreciate their efforts. This is also a very important time so every teacher wants to equip the students with the best knowledge before entering the exam," said Ms. Le Sa, an English teacher.

Quang Thi Be Ly, a resident of Chieu Luu commune, Ky Son district (Nghe An), confided: "We will try to take advantage of this important time to review the knowledge we have learned. The teachers at school are also working hard day and night to help us supplement important knowledge. Thanks to that, we are confident to enter the upcoming important exam."

Ly said she plans to apply to Hanoi Pedagogical University. She hopes to become a teacher in the future to help students in the mountainous areas of her hometown have a brighter future.

Ngo Thi Nhu Quynh, a resident of Chau Hoan commune, Quy Chau district (Nghe An), said: "Through self-study groups, we can also help each other more. We are all determined to pass the upcoming exam with the best results, not letting down the trust and efforts of the teachers at school."

Late at night, the lights are still on at the door, the stone benches, the students are still engrossed in their books. Everyone is sprinting to enter the upcoming exam with the best preparation, hoping to reap success and create new miracles.
